SmartScreen Released!

20, Nov 2009

SmartScreen has been in the pipeline for a while. Another lock screen app… but this one’s a lot different. It gives you more functionality in the form of widgets (similar to a Mac dashboard) – and some very useful system controls on your lock screen too (turn off Wifi, Edge, iPod Controls and more).

The app [...]

GeoHot has blogged that he will be releasing his 05.11.07 (f/w 3.1 & 3.1.2) iPhone baseband unlock for the 3G and 3GS at noon EST (San Francisco US 2pm, London UK 5PM, Sydney AUS 4am) today, a day earlier than originally promised. He has also updated his jailbreak package blackra1n to RC3 to incorporate the [...]

It’s been noted on the forums here that some iPhone 3GS owners are having a hard time jailbreaking.  This may be because Apple are now shipping 3GS units that appear resistant to the current breed of jailbreaks.
The Dev Team have confirmed talk that a new bootrom (iBoot-359.3.2) has been found in new units and this [...]

GeoHot  just released the Mac OS version of blackra1n.  It comes hot on the heels of the Dev Team’s PwnageTool v3.1.4 release yesterday.  Mac users have a right to be happy – they now have two 3.1.2 jailbreak tools to choose from!
See the comments section below for more details and discussion.

The Dev Team have uploaded PwnageTool_3.1.4.dmg to their torrent site.   This tool will allow you to create a custom jailbroken 3.1.2 firmware on your Mac for shift+restoring to your device.  As with the previous versions, PwnageTool 3.1.4 will work on all devices except for the iPod touch 3G and there is no Windows version.  The [...]

A few hours ago GeoHot released his Windows 3.1.* jailbreak for all devices.  Go here to get it.   So far results appear to be generally positive and most are reporting an easy jailbreak with few problems, though some iPod touch 3G users are held to a tethered jailbreak for the time being and issues [...]

Apple have just updated the iPhone and iPod touch to OS 3.1.2.  The new update fixes several problems including a sporadic issue that may cause the device not to wake up from sleep, an intermittent issue that may interrupt iPhone cellular network services until restart and it also fixes a bug that could [...]

Worth Repeating [sic]

8, Oct 2009

In light of the incoming new 3.1 jailbreaks it’s worth repeating MuscleNerd’s warning again given that some still haven’t grasped that there is NO carrier unlock for the 3G and 3GS on OS 3.1.  If you need a carrier unlock you need to use the Dev Team’s PwnageTool to create a custom firmware which has [...]

Jail-Break-Through

7, Oct 2009

GeoHot has posted up a photo of an iPod touch 3G running Mobile Terminal and accessing the deeper file system on his blog to show he has successfully jailbroken.
He also has a new website where he will promote this new jailbreak, codenamed blackra1n.
I’m sorry to say the release won’t be tonight though, still got 4 [...]

Two relatively new names on the scene, iH8sn0w, the developer of iReb (a Windows tool for overcoming 16** errors when downgrading or installing custom firmwares), and DarkMalloc are porting the Dev Team’s PwnageTool to Windows, a project that they’ve codenamed ’sn0wbreeze’.  They’ve given a definite deadline of October 12th for release – another date for [...]
