Teslanaut 04-09-2008, 10:17 PM ive put linux on my shitty pc but drivers for my usb wireless adapter dont work are there andy adapters that work? for ubuntu or gos? Anything with a Ralink or Prism2 chipset'll be fine :) I'd go with Ralink since those are more recent. Most Atheros or Broadcomm ones work too. therobinsonator 04-09-2008, 10:19 PM can i ask someone at like bestbuy which chipset they have i know i can get mine to work but i have to do some ndis wrapper thing and i get confused Teslanaut 04-09-2008, 10:22 PM can i ask someone at like bestbuy which chipset they have i know i can get mine to work but i have to do some ndis wrapper thing and i get confused Usually, Ralink and Prism2 work right when Plugged in. Here is a List of Wifi devices that work with Linux. (It says BackTrack but its Linux. BackTrack is a "Security Tool" based on Linux) http://backtrack.offensive-security.com/index.php?title=HCL:Wireless therobinsonator 04-09-2008, 10:23 PM ive got a belkin 750 somthing it somtimes shows a connect but i cant connect to it at all therobinsonator 04-09-2008, 10:25 PM wtf it says mine works therobinsonator 04-09-2008, 10:30 PM ill reinstall linux Teslanaut 04-09-2008, 10:32 PM ive got a belkin 750 somthing it somtimes shows a connect but i cant connect to it at all wtf it says mine works ill reinstall linux First of all, what distro and version of Linux are you using? Its mainly an Internet OS. therobinsonator 04-09-2008, 10:38 PM okay so the new ubuntu is out? and i like gos but ive always been confused to a dgree with liunx and wine drivers ect Teslanaut 04-09-2008, 10:42 PM okay so the new ubuntu is out? and i like gos but ive always been confused to a dgree with liunx and wine drivers ect Right now 8.04 Hardy Heron is in Beta. Full release very soon but it works very well. It doesn't take very long to learn Linux at all. The Ubuntu community is very very helpful. We can be helpful here too ^_^ Depending on how old your computer is, I suggest you use Xubuntu. Its based on the XFCE desktop environment, which is for computers with lower Specs. therobinsonator 04-09-2008, 10:44 PM got it when i was like 6 and im 16 now so bout 10 years iim dling the beta now then just make it an image on a cd or somthing? Cyanidepoison 04-10-2008, 01:15 PM got it when i was like 6 and im 16 now so bout 10 years iim dling the beta now then just make it an image on a cd or somthing? Burn the image to a CD, yes. I've tried Xubuntu Hardy in VBox OSE and it was very snappy. I would recommend it to anyone. therobinsonator 04-10-2008, 05:42 PM ca i mount it on a zip drive if so how? Parm289 04-12-2008, 11:41 AM For your wireless situation try out ndiswrapper. You need the windows drivers for your adapter (I think xp or win2000 drivers work best), and open them with ndiswrapper and you should be good to go. This doesn't apply to all Adapters/Chipsets though. If your device has a Ralink or Intercil/Prism, it should work right out of the box. Some Atheros also. As for Broadcomm thats another story. | |
