Zee 04-14-2008, 02:33 PM I think he means Syncing Music and Videos. I've synced Music no problem, have also mounted as root so I could access the Applications directory to customize or do whatever I wanted. Never tried videos but I don't think it should be an issue since you can access the entire iPod filesystem with Linux. I've already pointed to a link that gives you step by step instructions on how to sync your iPod touch with Linux using Amarok. I'm currently doing it and it works fine. I'm in Linux right now. Zee 04-14-2008, 06:56 PM Oh wow, thats really cool, is the Support built into Amarok? Will they build it in? Amarok has sort-of built in support for mounting an iPod. You have to provide it with a script telling it how to mount and un-mount your iPod. It's easy to setup. There's a linux package called "iPod Convenience" that has the necessary scripts to correctly mount your device. Scroll up to my post where I posted the link on how to configure it. If you go step by step it's pretty straightforward. PM me if you want some extra help and I could give you some screenshots of where to setup stuff in Amarok. Once you've mounted your iPod in amarok, from the little "iPod" menu choose "update album artwork". Depending on how many songs you have on the thing it'll say "updated xxx songs". Then you hit "disconnect" to disconnect your iPod. This will take a LONG TIME depending on how many songs you have on the iPod. This is due to the fact that you're syncing wirelessly, and Amarok is now updating all the tags on your songs to enable the album-art again. Once it disconnects your album art should be fine. Someone1guy 04-18-2008, 11:05 PM Sorry, to ask, but does this method work using WiFi or the USB cable? I thought I saw it said wifi was required, but looking at the implementation, it doesn't seem to be. pdedecker 04-22-2008, 11:52 AM Sorry, to ask, but does this method work using WiFi or the USB cable? I thought I saw it said wifi was required, but looking at the implementation, it doesn't seem to be. You have to wiressly mount your iPod every time you want to sync it. By the way, I posted this about my iPod experience on Ubuntu in another thread:I've used my iPod touch with Linux for quite some time, and I strongly disrecommend it. First of all: if you're gonna dump iTunes, you're gonna need to perform a jailbreak in order for it to work. It takes quite a lot of configuration actually. Second thing: since there's no way to perform a sync using the USB port yet, you're gonna have to transfer all your files wirelessly. Believe me, it's SLOW as hell. Besides, this method requires you to install OpenSSH on your device. This application consumes an awful lot of battery life, even when you're not actually using it. kg4ojl 05-19-2008, 11:08 AM I have a quick question, Is there any way to sync with itunes after you have put music on your touch with amarok? I have (MANY TIMES) been able to put music on my touch in linux, and be able to play it, etc. But when i try to plug it back into itunes to sync with it, then it wants to restore my device (can't read it) Am i doing something wrong, or can you not sync in linux and in itunes also? (Have your cake and eat it too) Bernstein229 05-22-2008, 12:48 AM It doesn't matter if you access the Directory. Have you seen how Apple organizes Music and Videos?
