MacRumors.com is reporting that an email from "Jobs" says that a software update will enable Touch users to add and edit events to Calendar:

"Steve Jobs reportedly replied and addressed the last two issues:
David,

Nothing can be done about the games. The new iPod touch is a completely different animal inside than the old iPods and the games just don't translate. The inability to edit and add calendar events is a bug that will be fixed in a future software update.

Best,
Steve"

hang on, people, it's coming--

This was posted yesterday... While I -- too -- hope its true, there are a lot of people questioning the posted email's validity...

what a load! either this is a classic example of "cripple a device and then play dumb and fix it when people bitch" or "I just made up an Email to get Apple to do something about it"

either way, it would be great if i could add my work scheduele... from work.

My purchase of an iPod touch will be conditional on a two way Synch and input capability of both iCal and Address. I have test driven a demo and Safari works well. It gives you access to your webmail. As soon as iCal and Address can be synched like the Palm, I will purchase the iPod Touch and retire the Palm Zire.

They can be synced on Windows and Mac. Currently the calendar lacks adding events. But once the hack is released you can simply load the iPhone calendar app to fix it.

I agree. They probably did that to encourage people to upgrade to the next firmware because I am guessing it will be even harder to hack into...

Now that MobileCal has been successfully copied onto the Touch, can anyone confirm this? Thanks

I went ahead and purchased the 8GB iPod Touch. I can retire my Palm Zire from active duty and use my 512MB iPod Shuffle when the safety of my iPod Touch might be at risk. Meanwhile I'll patiently await Apple's promised input fix for iCal on the iPod Touch that MacRumors hints at.

I thought that it was going to be in the firmwire version update, though?

What other way can you add events?

My patience paid off. Software and firmware upgrade 1.1.2 arrived from Apple today. When you've downloaded it and loaded it into your iPod touch, the "+" shows up in Calender and you're good to go. Two way input for Calender and iCal seems to work just fine.
