springboard desktop w.e you wanna call it, gather round programmers I have an idea. I was thinking I know this touch sceen thing is cool and new and all but was thinking just how cool it would be if you could flip from page to page on your springboard by flicking the ipod left or right, just a quick little flip. I was also thinking it would be cool if insread of flicking you could turn it upside down and get a whole new page. This wouldent be as practicle but would be cool none the less.

I think he's referring to shaking the iPod itself to skip tracks (via the accelerometer), which is a gimmick employed in a few DAPs/PMPs. I'm not too keen on the idea myself as it's not particularly practical.

it would be pretty cool tho

it's better off how it is now, the accelerometer doesnt always work on the first try.

When I read the thread title I thought this was going to be about a landscape springboard. I don't get why you would want a shake interface, what happens when you run with it in your pocket? A dub remix of everything on your iPod in one go :) ?

that wouldnt be to good of an idea because sometimes the accelometer doesnt work and if you wanted to get to maps lets say and your accelometer wouldnt work you would have to wait a little while just to check out an adress

a landscape springboard should be the next big development for springboard/other apps like it. Even better is a spring board that shifts from landscape to upright whenever. This combined with a "quick skip" function on the unlock screen while the ipod is awake seems like a good idea. Volume could even be changed with up/down.

there must be somethin wrong with your iPod then cuz my accelirometer allways works...
