I know how much a pair of good in ear headphones can improve the sound quality. I have heard that the best deal are the new APPLE in ear with remote n mic as these offer great sound for a very low price (to me kinda expensive). Since I just bought an ipod touch 2g this would be even more useful for me. I just dont know if i should go ahead and spend the 80 dollars?

i think u should go for it, if ur really dedicated to music, and u want to listen in high quality, do it
but theres much more cheaper alternatives to it, check out best buy, u could probably find a better deal, and have enough money left over to buy urself an itunes card

If you are really dedicated to music, then you should not buy those headphones. They are absolute crap, there's meant to be twin drivers in each ear, yet bass is almost non-existent. For $80, you can get some better alternatives. If you really want to use the mic+volume controls, then get the in ears, but for audio performance, go for other makes.

For 100 dollars, I know its more, but these headphones are worth it, you can get etyotomic hf5's from amazon, they're really good.
And for eighty you can get Shure SE110's

Popular cheap headphones are skull candies, I don't know how the bass is though.

Yes, if you want BASS then DON'T get the Apple IEM's - I bought them and just sent them back.
Until I find anything better, I'm sticking with my VModa's - More details/my review in my post over here:

Congrats!
I have to say, that was the most USEFUL and thorough review i have read over the internet so far (seeing that i only read a mediocre amount of reviews).
I felt that it was very informing and was perfect for the person who wants to buy a set of new headphones minus the hefty suggested amount :P
Thanks i will be sure to tell others about this review.

Hi I've been lurking around the forum and have had a jailbroken ipod for a while now but I have been too shy to input anywhere. But I figured, heck, I know headphones so i'd give in some help.
to build some credibility, I have actually owned all of these headphones for over 3 months each, so they were all adequately burnt in. Now if you have different opinions regarding any of these phones, thats cool. im just letting you know i have actually owned these xD
Cheaper phone under 70
Sony ex71 - $60 Yeah yeah you can tell me sonys suck because of durability issues, pricing, and w.e but these were my first headphones that cost over 10 bucks. so give me a break. They have a pretty boomy looser bass instead of a controlled tighter bass feel. Good balance, but didnt last too long. (less than a year foshoo)
Sony ex51- $40 They sound like a cheaper ex71. less defined. more muddy. more eww.
Apple in ears These make me shudder. xD sorry to everyone who owns these im not trying to be a jerk....
Sony ex91 i dont remember this is based off memory. $90 These are flimsy upgrades to the 71 with a really thin wire that will eventually fray. :/ They sound better but are not worth ur money
Mid range
Shure e2c - 90? (good luck finding these.. to me they sound better than the currently sold se110 even if you were to tell me the drivers were exactly the same. idk. maybe a better fit for me). These are REALLLLY durable, and last forever. Shure has a good warantee included. They sound really good in my opinion for the 90 dollars. A little less bass than others, but more defined that most. They do a good job at sound isolation too. (I was almost hit by a car walking home from school with these -___-)
Creative Aurvanas 90- They sound pretty good, look pretty sleak, lasted a while. I liked these better than my Shure e3cs ($150) to be honest. These are aimed towards rap and r&b listeners that like that bassy atmospheric feel, while maintaining clarity. I LIKE THESE PHONES A LOT.
Vmoda vibes 80 They sound ok but will break guaranteed in about six months. There is a defect with these phones in that there is a sharp piece of metal that internally cuts at the wire near the 3.5 mm plug. They sound decent with a LOT of bass, but i honestly dont think that "decent" sound quality is worth a trip to the apple store every 4-6 months.
Higher range
Shure se210 150 - these phones are good, and in a way almost tooooo revealing. I realized that most of my music (about 10 gigs worth) is encoded at 192 or even 128 kb/s. so i found these phones revealed all the lil cracks and pops and nuances in the music i didnt really like. They sound better than the Shure e3cs, which cost the same but are aimed toward professionals.
Shure e3c - these phones used to be available in retail stores but since have been replaced with the "se" line, similar to the e2c's which was replaced by the se110.
They sound pretty good. revealing like the se210s
Shure e4c $180 - I like these better than the e5cs so i wont even bother mini-reviewing those. But these headphones are rather pricey, but I feel they are well worth the price. But honestly, at this point, if you dont listen for tiny naunces in music, I would actually tell you not to buy these phones. They would be similar to e3cs or se210s for listening to 192 encoded mp3s (probably what you are listening to) :/
Final verdict?
1. Creative Aurvanas - DEFIINITELY aimed toward the casual listener with some extra cash xD. they have a pretty tight controlled bass that has a very complete feel to it. They are well balanced for all types of music. So i'd say these are really good.
2. I'd say if you could find some Shure e2cs/Shure se110, they'd be a safe bet. They are incredibly durable, and can withstand audiophile testing. My pair that ive owned for about two years just broke, and they broke due to my accidently YANKING the cord. only con would be the hassle of finding a store that carries the e2cs. Which i actually like better than the shure se110. (again kill me later)
The phones i use right now are the shure se110's. i like em.
