Ok, so basicly this is what will happen. How do i know this, because i have sat and watched it happen on this forum for every firmware released since 1.1.1.

The Firmware will be leaked within the next few hours/days.
People will download it.
People will install it.
People will find out that it is buggy and laggy due to the fact it is a BETA.
People will want the jailbreak back and stabilty of 2.2.1.
People will restore back to 2.2.1 jailbroken.

So basicly, they spend all that time to try out 3.0 for a few days and then restore back.

It happened with 2.0, and will probably happen for 3.0.

So here is my idea.

We use the idea of iPhone Linux.

In terms of its duel booting.

Something like this...

http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/imgcache/30131.png

Basicly, instead of booting into a linux OS, it boots into the 3.0 Firmware. Now im not sure how this would be done, im just sticking it out there. But basicly it would stop people having to write over their current 2.2.1 firmware just to test out 3.0 for a few weeks. And saving some time :)

http://wikee.iphwn.org/s5l8900:dualboot It has been done before, would just have to be changed to work on new firmware...

Wow, that sounds like a brilliant idea! I'd love to have a go at it

I think my "dream iPod" would have a triple-boot between 1.1.4, 2.2.1, and 3.0. It would be hard to do, but very nice upon completion.

I think they managed to dual boot 1.1.4 and 2.0 a while back, correct me if I am in err.

Chris Stroud had the idea of dual booting 2.x and 1.1.x a while back but since 2.0 and 3.0 have the same frameworks it might just work. Who knows.

why would you want 1.1.4 if you have the current firmware?

Well im guessing they would be in differnt partitions? So wouldnt matter?

That's a great idea. I hope that does come true, because I want to be curious enough to get 3.0, but not loose everything on 2.2.1. Nice idea.

1.1.4 had very good jailbroken apps.

Ok, yes this can be possible but instead of have for example 8GB on your ipod, that number will change to 6 or 5 GB.

no its not as simple as that. When that was written, all the jailbreaks where at the userland level. However now, it is the actual boot proccess which has been hacked so other things need to be taken into account.

Is open iBoot compatiable with 24K PWN?
I know it wasn't with Redsn0w, but i'm not sure about 24K Pwn becuase that is a bootrom exploit at a lower level

Boot-args are disabled and thus you can't apply the commands needed to dual boot. I've heard MuscleNerd has a way to get them back but it isn't user friendly. Perhaps if he made a patch....

hmmm, that would be good, perhaps someone who has contacts with him could talk to him?
