Q: Bluetooth on the iPod touch?
A: Bluetooth is a capability we can “unlock” on the latest-gen iPod touch.

also if you watch the keynote they show the peer to peer working with ipods and iphone's together, via BLUETOOTH so yes bluetooth is unlocked in the ipod touch 2g, how unlocked i guess we really wont know for sure untill 3.0 releases. So far we know a2dp and peer to peer games with no pairing required and communicating with all sorts of devices, such as diabetic monitors (as demo'ed in the keynote) Most likely file sharing is not unlocked however which is why dev team will still be great for this

If Apple unlocked the bluetooth in 2G . That would be much more easier for dev team to build an advanced version Bluetooth progeam for 2G. Such as file transfer function...and more. like iBluetooth or Sweettoot.

Sorry to break it to you all but the Bluetooth "unlock" of the 2G only means that it won't be locked to using only the Nike+ device. It will be used for A2DP and peer-to-peer gaming, I HIGHLY doubt Apple will be adding file sharing through bluetooth any time soon.
Just my 2 cents.

No, you can't share music (yet). But after the 3.0 OS is jailbroken, I'm pretty sure there's gonna be an app that will allow you to share you library.

Past: Locked = Only For Nike+
Present: Still locked (but supports more devices) = Only for Nike+ / iPod Touch / iPhone / Maybe computers, I don't know
Future: Unlocked (Maybe iBluetooth can be modified to support the 2G) = Any device with Bluetooth, including cellphones.

They did say for peer-to-peer games, because they said peer-to-peer games used bluetooth, then went out to say three seconds later an example of someone being in a car playing between iPhones and iPod touches.
I do hope they unlock it for wireless headsets and such, that would be nice, and they should, because people know about it now since they said it was a feature they could unlock, people know about it, so Apple has to do it now.

I believe they said devs would be able to interact with other hardware via the dock connector and Bluetooth. That tells me that the bt should be able to work with other headsets, etc.

If we fully "unlock" the iPod touch, can we use it like the Samsung P3
In which case, we would only have to purchase a crappy phone and use the iPod as a front end, only keeping the phone in our pockets.
And this is pushing it, but if the crappy phone had GPS and 3G... think of the possibilities...

If the touch has full bluetooth who needs an iPhone.....
Use a crappy phone as a modem to send and receive stuff for the iPod..
The only thing that I can see that could differ the iPod and the iPhone would be one has Camera and the other is ALOT thinner... (if the iPod 3G has a camera then.........*more dots*)
Dialer - use the phone for that with a frontend for the iPod (yes apple can freak about this) connection via bluetooth..
GPS - connect over bluetooth?
Internet - if the phone is unlocked then bluetooth....?
I'm not sure about GPS, but I'm pretty sure it can be done.

Actually, there are some cell phones that run Windows Mobile that can create a small WiFi network that uses the phone as a gateway so that the laptop can connect to the phone to get internet access.

Then the other models in the range will be called iClassic and iShuffle? Also, if someone is pissed off and shouts "iPod touch, my @$$", it will be really funny if he were to say "iTouch, my @$$" instead, lol! ;)
And speaking of the Bluetooth, its good that Apple has finally unlocked the full capability of this feature in our 2G iPod touch... From what I have heard before, the nike+iPod feature makes use of the limited BT capability (before the OS update)... Otherwise how does the iPod communicate with the Nike sensor in our shoes while doing our jogs?

Even if Apple is not interested in allowing everything in what the bluetooth of the iPod Touch is concerned, they did the hardest part which was unlocking it...the teams that were working on this can finally relax and the people working in the Cydia repositories can start thinking about features that were already talked about here.....use a crappy phone as a somewhat of a server and use the iPod Touch to send text messages, voice calls,GPS through a bluetooth gps device,so many different scenarios that would make a grown man cry of joy :p

So is the feeling that when version 3.0 comes out the bluetooth will be unlocked but not fully that it would support a bluetooth GPS such as the Freedom2000 (http://www.freedominput.com/site/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=111&Itemid=81)? In other words to fully use the GPS you would have to jailbreak the bluetooth capability further for this to work. I use the Freedom 2000 with my Blackberry but having the capability with the Ipod Touch would be awesome.
SjPedro

Will the $10 iPod touch 3.0 upgrade include the Bluetooth support? From Chris S
Yes, Apple mentioned that yesterday. Now that iPhone OS supports stereo Bluetooth (A2DP), Apple is going to unlock that feature on the second-gen iPod touch. (The Bluetooth chip isn't in the first-gen iPod touch, however.)
Glad it's known now. I will get me some stereo blue-tooth headphones now thank you very much.
