I'm thinking about updating to 3.0 (*Itchy Update fingers*), but as I'm quite a noob (jailbreaking was hard enough to me!), I have a few questions. I have a first gen iPod touch, jailbroken 2.2.1

1) Can I just use Shift+Restore in iTunes or do I have to use quickpwn or something to get my firmware to my device? (damn, no yes or no possible:rolleyes:)

2) Is it true that, if you got the 3.0 file in an illegal way (Shame on me!), you can not upgrade?

3) Does the voice recorder app work on a 1st Gen?

4) Does Peer-to-peer work on a first gen?

5) Is the youtube app already working?

6) Can you restore to your official firmware?

7) If not, where can i get a pwnd one?

8) Do 2.2.1 apps still run on 3.0?

9) I heard the dev-team was working on a jailbreak. Is that going to be released before June?

That's it for now. Answering just one of these would be great!

1) Shift-Restore
2) Yes, either pay or don't upgrade
3) Only if you have an external microphone
4) No
5) Some people have reported it broken, but it works for most
6) Yes, through DFU. They say you're locked into testing, but you're not
7) No
8) Yes, they should (in theory) but it's not jailbroken, so you don't have to worry. As for App Store apps, of course
9) They aren't working on it, nor will they be. It will be released by the dev-team when an official firmware is released.

I have a complain about the number 2 answer. You can upgrade if you disable the network adaptor.

Is that picture highly inappropriate or is it just me.

You can, but that's violating Apple's agreements and stuff. So don't.

2) Is it true that, if you got the 3.0 file in an illegal way (Shame on me!), you can not upgrade?
Again, you can, but don't

3) Does the voice recorder app work on a 1st Gen?
No, you need an external dock-connected mic.

4) Does Peer-to-peer work on a first gen?
No, no BlueTooth

5) Is the youtube app already working?
Yes...

6) Can you restore to your official firmware?
2.2.1? Yes.

8) Do 2.2.1 apps still run on 3.0?
Yes

9) I heard the dev-team was working on a jailbreak. Is that going to be released before June?
Probably

Thanks for the responses! Wonderful community! But, according to you guys, I should keep my sweet 2.2.1?

Personally, I like 3.0 better, but it is up to you. I saw some screenshots somewhere that you can see, I forgot the site though.

3.0 is a BETA and should not be used as a fulltime firmware.

How should it be used then? As fulltime toilet paper? I just want to taste Apple's new baby doll, but i can not open the dmg file! Any help or should i make a new thread about this?

DMG files are opened by Macs only, however there are some windows software that can open it. http://www.free-news-release.com/Open--DMG-files---MagicISO-Detail_7808.html

Thank you, downloaded the trial, but got this strange message...

"Can't find the file or file isn't a cd file"

Mmm.... Maybe it's a secret message from apple...

Any other methods??

Hmmm... try something else. All of them seem to be payware.

You're far too kind! Although this method didn't work either! It says that the dmg. contained 'lost' files, it tried to search for them but it failed. I have to download another version, i think!

use transmac it works perfectly and very simple, also you dont have to disable network adapters either, just create a rule to disable outbound connections for itunes via the advanced firewall app in windows. can still use itunes store and download album artwork even, at least it works perfect for me
