I acquired the iPod Touch 1st-gen 3.0 beta, but it's in a .dmg file. How would I go about extracting/running it on Windows? (W7)

transmac is by far the easiest
7zip is much easier. Just install it. Open the DMG like you would open a zip file. Find the image file in there, open that and the ipsw is in there.
Shouldnt matter if you got it legaly...

Nahh 7zip doesnt work all the time especially for never dmg's, trans is definitely better.

it doesnt have to be pirated, i am no developper but i am sure that apple only provides mac firmwares, after all the developer console or what not is on the mac, BUT he could have been using a windows at the time.

well, when i downloaded the iPhone 3.0 beta Legally, it wasnt in a .dmg. it was the pure FW itself.

If you got the firmware illegally, think twice about installing it, even if you figure out how to extract the ipsw. Trust me. If you are not a dev and cannot activate your device, it will not work properly. And as far as I know, you can't restore to earlier firmware, either.

Umm, guys sorry to burst your bubble, but I don't think he would be downloading it. After signing up to the Dev Center and trying to DL the SDK 3.0 - you have to be a member of the Standard/Enterprise Program thingy.. which is 300 odd dollars... LEGALLY.
So you must be a true dev then?...
Note: DL'ing iPhone SDK 2.1.1 (Legally) at 1.21Mb/s of 1.74Gb at a hotel with unlimited DL.

so this is bugging me where do I go on the dev site to get my copy of ipod 3.0 since its a dmg. and not the other extention for mac. Windows users Version?...... :( Can anyone pin point to me where on the site do I go. And yes I payed for the development and feel stupid relizing everything is only for macs yay Daniel you wasted money. Anyway how do I go about getting the firmware from there so I can put it on my ipod... casue every where I click on shows .dmg

People have already told you how to extract the dmg earlier in this thread. That being said, after everything that has been posted on this forum and elsewhere, do you really want to install it? The jailbroken 2.2.1 works flawlessly. In time, the official release of 3.0 will as well. As of now, however, the beta is very buggy. If you are a dev and are able to activate it, it is usable and the new features are pretty cool. But if I were you, I'd just wait for the official release.

use any virtual cd program. the only ones i know of are for windows, MagicDisc and MagicISO.

hi i just downloaded flash on my itouch(long story short, i had dtunes and uafaker... so yea...) i need 2 kno how to open the dmg file on my itouch bcuz i am clueless and i rly dont want to bother downloading the stuff needed to download on u comp, like 7zip unless of course u rly need to do the download. and can u tell me if it isnt possible at all to get the flash to open? bcuz i kno a lot of ppl hav tried to get flash on itouch. i just want to use a thing online called sumopaint and they require flash and they wont make an app any time soon so yeaa
