Hi, just a quick and curious question , from what ive been hearing the 1g iPod users's will have to pay a small fee for 3.0. Does anybody know why this fee has been put in place ?

Surely not bluetooth as the 1g has no Bluechip ?

It costs for the 2G as well, and there is more to 3.0 than just bluetooth.

Because the iPhone has to pay a monthly fee, so really, they're paying more.

I personally wont be paying to update I have had 3.0 on my 1g and didn't notice much difference so in that sense just because I'm a lil bit practical in the sense of why pay to upgrade if I wasn't 100% happy with the preview I had lol

You won't be able to install 99% of new app store applications released after 3.0.

lol, its because iphone people hav to pay monthly to 02 and stuff, and the iphone make apple more profit..

ive spent $50 on my ipod touch total. that includes buying 2.2.1, music, videos, and games. i will spend another $10 on 3.0 because im not an iphone owner

If ur a 2G user then u havent had to pay for any huge firmware updates like us 1G users. But Apple sells the big updates like 2.0 and 3.0 for money for the iPod Touch Users.

No! Some portion of that at least 80 bucks a month goes to Apple for exactly thie reason. I'm surprised iPhone users aren't b:mad:tching about having to pay when there is no software update!

We haven't had to pay because by the time the ipt2G was released, 2.0 was already out. We will pay for 3.0, though.

And IMO Apple is screwing you 1G owners off. You will only be able to use like half the features that are released! :(

unless you are a developer and have 3.0 on your 1G, then you get the finished firmware for free.

There is a law that prohibits major feature upgrade for complete devices, such as the iPod touch is marketed. Anything with a repeating contract payment is not marketed as complete, so iPhone users get updates for free.

dude one of the major reasons i want 3.0 is push nodifaction for aim. Maybe the search and also safari is 10x faster. And sorta landscape mail. I have a 2g but i don't want bluetooth im not in a huge need for it i really dont even want it ha.
