Hey guys, just wanted to let everyone know I made the first video of a series that I will be posting over the next few days. The first video I show how to open the iVoice III and what the insides of it look like. I know the video quality is shotty but I will be working on fixing that in my upcoming videos. Hope everyone enjoys!

Credit to Earl and the Touchmods team for all of their hard work.

Great video!

You dont need to make another video showing how to mod it. I never knew it was so simple, the only other resource we need is a High Quality close up pic of the modded mic so we can see the soder points... Again great video!

hey guys watch when you do this so you dont pull the pad on R24. the best way when you remove this resistor is to heat up both sides with a tweezer style solder iron.(I have them at work) So if you dont have one try to heat both sides at the same time while removing with tweezers or small pliers. Again careful not to lift the pad (The pad is a small square piece of metal glued to the ciruit board, that the resistor gets soldered to. They are very easy to lift and break off.) Take your time and remember not to leave the iron on the parts for more than two to three seconds no more. if you cant get it in that time wait a minute for it to cool and try again. The other thing about doing this was opening the case I started at the corner next to the plug and used a razer blade and pry alittle until it snaps open then do the other side of the plug. If you need to practice get a old circuit board(out of any electronics you can find will work, if your house is like mine I have a bunch of old cell phones lying around and if you dont have one you could ask a phone dealer they will give you a non working model most of the time) when your done I used some steaking putty to hold the wire down close to the board so it wouldn't have the chance of working loose. I guess if any of you want me to build you one I would do it for the price of the mic plus 10 dollars for my time (going to get it gas, shipping it ect) and you pay shipping I live in the us just leave me a message on here.
hopes this helps.

FINALLY I got it to work and to put it back in it's original case. No iron rosin whatever it is needed. Just burnt a big chunk of it :P... still worked thou. lol You really are right about the sensitivity of the microphone. I'll give you all a video of this working... if you want it. :D

Hey, welcome to the forums geologykid! That looks pretty easy to do, I wasn't sure how complicated it was. I am probably going to pick one up this week. Thanks for the video.

Wasn't hard for me.. but of course we did do it for like 5 hours. :P We had the worst material to possibly ever work with. One word... coldheat. Nothing else to be said.

mine arrived this morning. I have everything I need, but I have a question about the type of wire to use. I know Earl said that he has sliced open a CAT5 cable and used one of those wires - but which one did he use? Would all of them/any of them work?

Any suggestions?

It doesn't matter, just pick a set of entwined wires and untwine them, then pick one.

Yep! :D Can't be picky can we? All wires work... but it's best to use the smallest wire you can find. ;)

I used 26 gauge wire at work we have soild core 30 gauge wire that is made for circuit boards (ours is blue but color dont matter for a hack) any smaller wire will work but remember to pretin it it makes it easyer (pretin is just putting solder on the wire before you solder it to the board.

Nice vid, i also saw another one on you tube. He brought up a good point that i havent heard of anyone doin. Which is some sort of software that could turn on the IC, instead of soldering a wire for the 3.3V. Im on my touch right now so i cant post a link for the vid, but just search "ivoice mod" it'll be the first vid.

1) Is it possible to use a headset like this one.http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/tunebudsmobile

http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/imgcache/16073.png

The rectangle thingy in the second wire is a mic. Could I use this with my IPod touch first gen. [They say you could use it with ipod touch 2 Gen]

2) Whats the difference between ipod 1 & 2 G in terms of the mic / voip calling capabilities?

3) Would it be a good idea to wait a bit, until they software hack the IC for the IVoice III?

geologykid - great video but you need a haricut :p j/k

so I assume that this only works on 2g iPod Touch devices, correct?
