Hi guys,

I am planning to buy both an iPhone 3G and an iPhone 3GS. I am aware of factory unlocked iPhones which are an easy option but are very expensive. I am mainly interested in buying a subsidized iPhone (from any country) and unlocking it.

That's where the problem starts, AT&T have enforced in-store activation (or they take your IMEI number to check if you have activated) which makes buying in the US not an option.

So, my question is: what would be the best country to buy an iPhone 3G (and perhaps iPhone 3GS when an unlock is available) to unlock it? And I assume unlocks work for any iPhones (not only AT&T).

Thanks a lot in advance!

I don't know if this is an option for you, but every once in a while, a great deal will pop up on eBay or craigslist. You also could also go AT&T and buy a new iPhone and set up a plan and everything then just call AT&T when you get home and cancel the plan...I believe early cancellation is 200$

Traveling to a different country might be a pain just for an iPhone >.<
Your decision though :D
