To take a screenshot, on Firmware 2.0 or higher, hold down HOME and POWER buttons together and then let go. Then when you plug iPod touch into your computer it will detect your iPod like it is a camera and you can take the pictures directly off of your iPod touch.

Does not require jailbreak!

to take a screen shot with dock,
-go to the yellow sunburst at the bottom right.
-slide to the icon screenshot
-you will hear a screenshot sound
-then your screen shot will be in the "/tmp" folder. :D

use sftp to retrive the screenshot, just as i stated in the post above.

For those that prefer using SSH, install Erica's utility pack through the Installer and then via SSH go into the directory of choice and type snap filename and it will create filename.png in that directory. After snapping, use toJPEG which is also included in the pack by typing toJPEG filename.png to convert the file to JPEG.

some of the summerboard themes you get from the installer have custom icons. so if you wanted to, you could probably combine themes with some extra work

if there aren't icons for some of your apps, you have to make them yourself. i only did custom icons for the apps i was using.

Music, Pictures, Settings, Calc, Clock etc... are still default. I copied them into the litho theme folder... is that wrong?

Could one of you guys tell me how you organize your icons? Ive seen the other posts about editing the plist files, but could you explain to me how you got it so you were able to have like 8 icons, then blank spots and put the rest of the icons on a second page?

are you putting all the icons into the 'Icons' folder inside the litho theme folder?
also make sure they're named properly like Music.png etc. capitalizations do matter.

and check your Summerboard Prefs to make sure it's allowing theme icons to be displayed. Other than that, I don't know what would be wrong. do a reboot also.

I have a few relatively quick questions.

1) How do you find out the com codes for the third party apps so that you can easily add them to the N45AP.plist file?
2) Using Summerboard, is it possible to entirely disable the bottom dock? I noticed that it's set under it's own XML key so would simply removing that XML block cause it to not display?
3) .plist files are binary property lists. I have found a web-based .plist converter but it only goes one way, binary -> ascii. Does anyone know if the iPod requires them to be binary or are they simply binary to save space and can be used as standard ascii XML files?
4) Would it be in the domain of SummerBoard or some third party app (such as Customize or rSBT) to make a visual/GUI based icon reorder app?

Well i finaly got my SummerBoard working, and i wanted to do something that i saw when the iphone first came out. The World of Warcraft theme.
-These icons are not made by me and i am not taking credit for them, i will also be adding some of my own icons as i work along. I got the background and dock image from a iPhone specific theme over at modmyiphone, they have a lot of good looking themes and icons for those of you that are looking. Here is my WoW theme so far.

You have to edit the first four items in your N45AP.plist file. Here is mine. You will want to replace my app listings with yours and order them to your preference. Also note the addition of
<key>editableUserData</key>

Which fixes the calender add event button that Summerboard removes.

Just copy my file and save it in a text file named N45AP.plist. Then copy your old file from /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app to your computer as a backup. Next, place your new file in /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app. Restart Summerboard or put the iPoT in sleep mode and then turn back on. If you aren't sure what an identifier is called go to the installer and click on "uninstall" for each app that you need the identifier name for. Some of them might be cut off. You can probably search the forums to get the full name.

Hey, your bumble bee clock icon is fun too! I think I got my clock icon from the "Phiberglass" theme. I basically just picked icons and backgrounds from various themes to build my own. I'm still working on it. The mail icon I rebuilt from an image someone posted on here.

you mean viewing the png files? Windows can do that by default, did you drag the picture out of the iPod on to your computer? You can't view it if from your iPod, you need to bring it over to your pc first

I have, but when i open it it says that it is not formated correctly/corrupt. I am talking about the orrigional iphone/ipod app pictures.

Since all of you people have jailbroken the ipod touch on this thread then you might know the answer to my querstion.
when i go to http://jailbreak.toc2rta.com safari doesn't crash it just says The error was: "lost network connection" (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005)

The icons are from various themes and the wallpaper is artwork from the Radiohead album Kid A. I kept the original Youtube icon because I thought it fit pretty well. The only flaw that I find is that the labels from the third row icons can be a bit hard to see.

Just about everything in my Summerboard works great, except, for some reason, my dock customization doesn't work. whenever I have a theme that has a custom dock, only the very bottom of it shows up. Can someone give me a hand?

Okay. It looks like the litho dock works just fine. It's only seems to be the "leopard-style" docks that don't show up for some reason. It's quite a bit annoying!

I wouldn't worry too much about Customize. There's nothing in there that you can't just edit yourself fairly easily.

There is actualy one method but it gets kinda complicated and doesnt work when you have icons on a 2nd page. It involves making the demo app icon the size of the full screen and puting the names in the background image.

nobody ever answered the question of how to view the original ipod png's on a windows machine. i cant get them to open up. i guess they're encrypted or something. anybody been able to do this? i'd love to change the apple logo on the startup screen

Try uploading a blank (transparent) 59x60 icon for each of the applications, for when you're making the a theme for example, but you only need to upload the icons for it.

Basicly no need for wallpaper, statusbar and dock. (confused myself now .. :p)

I would but i don't know how to get the theme itself off i just made the icons and deleted them. I got them in the dock by using a theme that had them in the dock turning off the theme wallpaper and icons and adding my own. if someone has a how to i can upload it.

What are your thoughts on the Date on the Calendar? Preferably making it flip the correct way, but I'd settle for simply making it disappear.

Looks pretty good, if you could get that date to flip and the email icon as well it would be great.... even better if it would be possible to move and rotate the clock.

That'd be easy to do. right now, I'm still not wuite sure what I want to use for icons each app, so I'd hate to do any of the small details like that only to have to keep doing them over and over again. Eventually though, I like that idea.


the next real thing on my Agenda is to make that SideBar look more like the SideBar on Vista. Meaning I want more blocky looking icons over there. And I might add that invisible line that shows up when you mouse over it.

by everything else do you mean EVERYTHING or just the icons. the easy way is to install springboard and modify a theme you already like. i just copied the theme folder to my computer, changed the icons that i wanted changed and put it back on my iPod. reload the theme and it should be just the way you want it.

for most themes there are no music, video or itunes icons because they are designed for the iPhone. so find an icon you want to use and rename it to match the icon label. for example: Music.png or Videos.png, then toss into the icons folder in the theme folder.

I have found that the naming of some of the icons is not correct. The ones I installed from Installer, I had to go into the Springboard/Themes and rename. What worked for me is naming them exactly like the names under the icon. I think this might be a difference between the iPhone and the iTouch.

Well, I installed this theme because it was so radically different, but it's not very Apple. So I may revert. But for now:

I think what is needed now is a sticky where people can attach all there finished themes, icons sets etc all in one place.

Then we would easily be able to copy them to our themes folder and select through SummerBoard application.
