Just heard that up to 2 terabyte memory sticks were announced to be in development. Does anyone know of the compatibility of these memory cards with the creative zii?

Although 2TB is in fact very excessive, it would be nice to not have to worry about space at all and just put whatever you want on a hand held device.

Keep in mind that this new memory stick format can hold at maximum 2TB, so there are smaller size capacities in development too. If these are compatible with the creative zii, that's a big plus in my book.

Thoughts?

Love to see the pricing.

From what I've read around on the internet, people are estimating $400 for the 2TB, which will steadily decrease after a year.

I personally have no idea how memory sticks are priced, but they will most likely be somewhat affordable...

Keep in mind that they will probably release smaller capacity memory sticks (I would guess around 1 terabyte and 500gb) for cheaper :D

I really have no idea if the $400 estimate is legit though. Could be much higher...guess we'll just have to wait and see.

well, this new technology won't be very expensive for long... think of it as the blu-ray of flash memory. ;)

The general population doesn't even have 2TB on their computer, probably not even 500GB/1TB. Some people do, most don't.

+1 I don't even have half my 200gig computer filled. Although if they they made RAM chips with even 50gigs of RAM(do they make these) i would by on for sure. Computers laggin a bit

man that is like a dream come true!! i got a 320gig drive for my mac a while back, and i already have 100 left. 2tbs would take that need away. i would install 2000 os on it and 2000x boot!!

Yeah I do agree that 2TB is an extremely excessive amount. Even 500 GB is pushing it when it comes to memory sticks, but still. All I'm saying is it will be nice not having to worry about having enough space anymore, let alone take all the music and movies you can possibly imagine on the go with you.

Think about it this way:

Ten years ago, 1 gigabyte seemed like 1 terabyte today. We thought it was way too excessive and we would never need that much memory. But look now! Were using hundreds of gigabytes to store music, videos, Operating Systems, ect.

My point is the Terabyte is going to become the new Gigabyte and eventually it won't seem like 1 TB is that much memory. Just expect an 8 TB iPod in 5 or so years.

On the Zii website it says:
"Up to 32gb of External memory."

See it like this...
a 8GB iPod Touch has really 7.01 GB so it would "Really" be 2TB's maybe 1.8TB or so They just round it up to be even.

Actually iAG Pod, it would be more like 1.998 or something like that, the same space would be taken up, it's just the amount of storage would increase, not the OS size.

There is no way someone would make a 200 GB OS.

Its funny. These companies dont directly condone piracy, but is only so much legal stuff you can put on 2TB. The same with internet caps, what could you do that's not piracy, and use like 500gb a month? Apart from maybe hosting things, but apart form that.

Agreed.

but i thought the reason why it's 7.01 GB is because there's a Partition for the flash memory (500MB) but still, there's 7.51 GB rather the the whole 8Gb.

EDIT: Think of how many games the PSP Go can install. Cool, but it uses the M2 Card slots. Bummer.

2TB is completely excessive. (correct me if im wrong, but) i dont think itunes even has 2TB of music for sale. lets say you have 100 gigs of music (which is rediculous in itself), that wouldn't even make a dent in 2TB of storage. if a dvd is 2gigs, dont tell me you can even think of 1000 movies?! plus, that would cost millions of dollars to fill....and if you pirate it all.....

im just saying that imo, you will never need more than 256GB of storage on an MP3 player.

IFf I remember correctly, there is about 10 TB of music on itunes, and I know people with 500-700 Gig of music, and all legal as well.

oh ok. thanks for the info.
wow!! people have 500gigs of LEGAL music?! how much did they pay for all that??
------------------double post merged------------------
so, if theres about 10 million songs on itunes, and 10tb of music, that means that you can store 2 MILLION SONGS on a 2tb card. so, at 1.29$ a song, it would cost you a grand total of over TWO AND A HALF MILLION DOLLARS to (legally) fill up your pmp.......seems excessive.....

I think by the time 2TB sticks hit the shelves the Creative Zii would be a long since forgotten memory... 1TB HDDs aren't even common amongst regular people now

Would 2 TB really cost that much if you can buy this (http://www.buy.com/prod/cavalry-storage-caum-series-1-tb-usb-2-0-external-hard-drive-pre/q/loc/101/206746682.html) for about $90?

I'm not sure of the exact size of itunes, but that sounds about right.

And over 4 generations of music lovers, especially if you keep the quality of a Vinyl that can easily make 500 Gig.

i think that the main moral here is that there is no realistic way to use 2 terabytes. (period) theres just absolutely no use for it.

Yeah, yet, imagine, if everyone could have TB's of data on their computers, games will look better/take up more space, more RAM will be available as well as cheaper, better processors, etc... as well as for ipods, music quality will for once increase, because of being able to use more space, especially if data transfer rates increased.

I think ill get a 2tb memory stick an use it for Ready Boost on vista, maby it could help make vista suck just a little less, hmmm.

I wonder if you would be able to even use the whole 2tb for speed boost, i would think there would be some limit on the space that can be used.

So your friend must pirate a ton of music or he's rich and doesn't mind blowing about a couple million bucks on music that he couldn't finish in 3 years if he played it all nonstop.

I was only joking, and i'm definitely getting Windows 7. I have the beta version on my older pc and i like it a lot. I am also very happy that Microsoft is giving vista users a discount since vista was more or less a failure.

uh, how does getting a 2 TB memory stick make your computer or anything else for that matter faster?

Well in vista there is this thing called Ready Boost and it creates a cache file on a thumb drive or a memory stick that it uses as a RAM cache. The memory stick would not help anything else speed up (unless it had something like Ready Boost). This was really a joke though, id rather buy more RAM or a faster processor than get this for Ready Boost.
