iPhone OS 3.1 Beta Reveals Reference to new Apple Device "iProd"

Ars Technica is reporting that the latest beta version of iPhone OS 3.1 which was seeded to developers last week contains an updated configuration file that has references to two mysterious products known as "iProd0,1" and "iProd1,1".

You might remember that iPhone OS 3.0 had first revealed reference to "iProd0,1" in the same configuration file along with reference to "iPhone2,1" which turned out to be iPhone 3GS. However, reference to "iProd1,1" seems to be a new addition.

I assume this might be the Rumored Apple tablet. Am I the only one who thinks this has any relevance to the Apple Tablet.

iProd is most likely a codename to deter speculators. Apple would be stupid as hell to come up with a brand name too similar to "iPod".

When 3.0 was first released "iProd" caused much speculation. Then general conclusion was that it meant 'iProduct', IE Apple hadn't come up with a name yet. The addition of 1,1 could mean release soon…

So, if we assume that these are prototypes, then that means that it WILL be running iPhone OS (or at least a variant)?

Is there any refrence to the new ipod touch? like iPod3,1? Maybe its just the new ipod touch? From what I have read anything with a "0" iProd0,1 for example, first is internal prototype and never coming out. There have been other references in the FW before like that, that dissapered in future FW's. Its probably safe to assume iProd0,1 is never going to see the light of day and iProd1,1 is probably the new ipod touch, if it has no reference to a new ipod in the FW already.

Thanks I didn't know that. BTW it seams very likely that it will run a modified version of the iPhone OS. I might make a thread going into detail about what type of hardware and software IPTF users think it will have.

same here but i am not getting a macbook....im going to w8 till Windows 7 comes out and buy a laptop with that OS....i dont want to buy a laptop now bcuz im focused on the iPod Touch 3G right now

Would a tablet run iPhone OS instead of a modded version of OS X??? I think this is either a iPhone-Macbook hybrid (some sort of super-tiny netbook-like thing) or a distraction to keep us from seeing what the real next product is.

iphone OS is a modded version of OS X, i assume that they will create another modded version of OS X for the tablet, iProd OS if you will :P
