is the tablet is a fat iphone, no one will buy it. if it is a small, cheap mac, everyone will buy it. what do you think apple is making. i'm also hoping that it is more powerful than most TabletPCs and the crunchpad.

The general consensus is that it will be a hybrid iPhone/Macbook type thing.

i think it will be a really crappy mix of em and it will fail badly cuz its really impractical to use and seems very uncomfortable......just my .02

If it even happens, Apple is obviously going to make something aesthetically and ergonomically pleasing.

I think this is a very important question. Will they make it an restricted platform like the iphone or an open platform like the macbooks (running os x)?
When i thougt about its connectors, I put myself the question whether it would have usb or not. Because this would be a main point of an open platform or at least usb would make it hackable and extendable.

imo it will run an enhanced version of the iphone os that is more similar to the mac os. either that or it will just run osx with touch integration. i think they'll sell quite a few units at the first launch but after a while people will realize that its not necessary to have a touch screen computer.

A beta seed of Snow Leopard was delayed because of 'multi-touch implementation issues'. This means that somewhere along the line, Apple will announce either a touch-screen monitor, or a tablet.

To be honest, I think it would be really stupid to make a big iphone. I think it'll just be like every other mac, except, well, it's a tablet.

And I'd like to see them put a slide out keyboard or something on it too cause the iphone way of typing really wouldn't work on a computer.

Possibly iPhone OS with a tweaked SpringBoard that looks like a Mac Desktop and can run iPhone apps compiled for ARM in an emulation mode and developers can port their apps over to i386 (not that hard with an updated simulator honestly) and with an updated screen size. It would be a useful solution as having the iPhone OS with an i386 processor because they could much more easily fit the operating system to run on such a device. They know it needs to be thin and look good or not as many people will buy it. I like this image from Engadget:

I've used it before and as long as the device isn't too heavy you can get used to it within 2-5 minutes.

I think that if the tablet comes out, it will have full os 10.6 (snow leopard) with a "dashboard" type thing that takes you to an iphone-ish interface with apps/widgets made for its touchscreen ... like appstore implementation...

The Tablet is a nonexistent device that everyone wets their panties over every year, only to be distracted by another more logical Apple device that comes out, and forget about the "rumored tablet" until a month or two before the next year's keynote.

about using a different keyboard, im still getting used to my mom's netbook (95% size i think) compared to my hp laptop's keyboard i've been using for the past 5 years. i've been using this netbook off and on since march.
i dont see you getting used to a keyboard as drastically different like the origami's in 2-5 mins.....maybe 2-5 days....

They're still just rumors, just like they've been for years past.

There's no real sign of a new Apple device - especially something that's drastically different and could fail so easily.

Apple is a business; they're going to do what will make them the most money. Right now, that's iPhones and iPods. Something like a Tablet is risky, as it may not appeal as much to the iPhone/iPod Touch crowd (as they already have a Touchscreen device that does a lot, and a computer as well), and likely won't appeal much to someone who already has a MacBook or MBP, as they already have an Apple computer that's quite portable.

That leaves the Netbook crowd, which may not like it's interface or the lack of being able to just toss it into a back pack and not worry about it.

You'll of course see people buy one just for the cool factor, but a few people isn't enough to cover Apple's costs.

Well for one thing, this is the internet. People tend to lie about their age. I think a 7 year old will be able to figure that one out even. Also, there is a new thing called exaggeration. I will assure you, most active members on this site are not under 7.

Anyways, Nobody knows what it will be. Not one person here is able to tell you what it will be. My guess is it will be neither a small touch screen mac or a fat iPhone. I'm guessing it will be somewhere in the middle.
