OK, well this thread I made basically for Zune HD stuff, if your getting one post which version and what color. Here keep the talk about the Zune HD, dont come in here bashing it, or saying the ipod is better.

Im gonna be getting the 32GB and am thinking about getting it in either black or maroon. That is if I can convince my parents to let me get one. any points I can tell them to help me? they are convinced that apple is the best thing out there and no one can beat it, so I should just stay with my touch. can any of you guys help me out?

I hope to get the 32 gb platinum one but as im not in the US i'd need to import if it isnt released internationally

Im getting the 16gig in green

16GB's is where it's at! I can't wait to try something new. I loved my 1st gen touch, but I don't want to buy the same thing over again, just faster. The zune is something different and it's cheaper than apples prices. Hell, apple doesn't even sell the 16GB model anymore. I won't be getting it at launch (so how everything works out), but if everything looks good, I'll buy it for myself at Christmas.

I was thinking of going with the lower priced option, but I plan on watching a lot of anime on the HD. I wonder if it can play .avi files without transcoding.

You won't get the colors unless you order through zune originals off the zune mainsite when the zune is released.

I love it so far. It's different then the Touch. It's not aiming to be your personal PC/Mac. It plays music, videos, and shows pictures. And imo, it does it far better then the Touch. I like the music player, and how you tap or press the side button and it brings up the music commands, nice and big. The browser is slow, and I doubt I would use it for anything either, MSafari is better.

That's what I'm gonna do. The screen is more vibrant, most likely cause of OLED. It's just as responsive, if not more then the Touches.

so ive had mine for two days now and the sound quality on the thing rapes the touch. seriously. and about the whole screen brightness: outside it is just as bad a s the touch, but inside, it is magnificent. and if you can watch it in the dark it is even better. when the zune displays black, there is NO light coming out of it.

o mann i really wanna get mine today and mess it with for the weekend, but it looks like my local best buy and walmart are sold out. guess im gonna have to do some searching around. goodbye old 1st gen touch :)

Its not really a brushed metal. Its a composite plastic brushed to make it look like metal.

Plus I bought mine within a few hours of it coming out and sold it the next day. Just isnt worth it right now. Ill wait till the zune hd 2 when the appstore is bigger. I cant live without a appstore.

Thats actually most of what on I do on the touch, I just listen to music all of the time, being one thing that I will enjoy is the Zune Pass, being a Music lover I download tons of songs all the time, and for $15 a month, i can download as many as id llike. Another feature is the HD radio, My aunt has an HD radio in her car and I simply love it so you cant go wrong there. I will admit though that Zune's app store is lacking but when the games and apps start coming out, they'll be amazing such as PGR and the other likes.

Actually, if you only want it to listen to music, and you plan to use the Zune pass, the Zune is actually better in this regard, IMO.

Personally I don't think it's worth paying $180 a year for music you can't keep, but if money isnt an issue for you then cool.

But you still may begin to miss all the apps, and wish you didnt jump ship. And I would not count on the zune getting nearly as many good games as the Touch. And btw, all of them are going to have ads on them. MS had plenty of time, and a huge budget to make a handful of good launch apps, but so far they all blow.

I don't think Microsoft is going to be investing much in the app store. They know Apple had way to much of a head start with their app store, and without 3rd party dev support, they don't have a chance. Their app store is more of an afterthought, and a feature to tote to get people to buy the zune.

As far as the HD radio, its not that great. Reports are saying that it doesnt pick up reception well, and broadcasts get cut off a lot. Also a lot of stations still dont use HD, and the difference between HD and analogue isnt that big.

How are they going to organize all of these apps? Are they gonna rip Apple off with another feature, and use pages to organize. If not I wouldn't want to be scrolling like I had to be on Installer 1.x to get to an app that starts with W.

I they are good, I was raving about the ZuneHD when the first rumors came out. But needs more work, accept that.

I run cross-country. I'm not sure how I lived without it. It is really actually aweasome.

As far as I know you can do the same feature with the HD radio. hold on let me look..

To sum things up, the Zunes problem aside from its half baked features that few will utilize, are the features it doesnt have:

built in speaker
proper volume rocker
zune software for mac
availability to non US customers
bluetooth
browser with multi window capability
ability to watch youtube vids
no email program

i would trade HD radio, and HD video output for these things in a heartbeat.

Ah, so it isn't recording, but rewind and pause. Still very useful, but not as cool. Still, that would be awesome if iPod touch could do that...

Didn't find anything? I may be biased at times. But I inject truthful things in what I post. I don't hate the Zune, in fact, I actually want one, assuming it gets hacked. Or a 2nd generation comes out. And that gets hacked. And I have over 700+ iPhone OS apps. Thats quite a commitment to back away from.

If they want to compete, they need to roll this thing out everywhere they can. That was Palm's initial mistake with the Pre, the press wears off, and people forget. And THEN its released.

I trust you read the second part of that post, though, correct? I was merely saying that it could be assumed that since this is a first gen product, there will be upgrades.

I'm pretty sure that the people with macs are not the people Windows/Zune Team are targeting. And most of the people who have an interest in a zune that only has mac are probably running bootcamp or whatever its called.

To be fair every device has alot of pointless features, depending on who you are. While it's cool, Voice Control is utterly pointless to me, as is Nike +.

the 720p output is actually one of my favorite features of the thing. iv'e had an xbox 360 since the begining of the year, and my touch had no integration with it. the zune however, plugs in with usb, and the xbox can play any song, picture, video or whatever straight into the tv by hdmi and i can use my awesome speaker setup. now, i know that they tell you it displays 720p, but as far as i can tell with this (http://www.vimeo.com/4167288) test video, the thing looks straight up 1080p.

and with apple, you still have a handful of 3rd party items that are reasonably priced.

I picked mine up yesterday and i must say as a media player the zune beats the hell out of the Ipod Touch. With the interface and the oled screen it is almost orgasmic watching explosions on the zune hd. As stated earlier when the screen is black its black, there is no light coming out. Apple really fucked up not using this screen, there should be more bitching about this than that piece of shit camera they put in the nano and not the touch.

I also have to agree that the browser sucks balls, i cant watch any videos over at porn hub and that just aint right. the lame ass app store really aint that great either but its better than what we had when the touch came out so i wont gripe too much on that. it well get better, who knows with MS behind it, and a good CPU we could get Halo and GoW titles.

So far all my gripes are really easy to fix, its all software issues. My only hardware gripe is that it doesnt have a speaker. Boohoo, I got a ton of head phones i can cope. I also have to state that the device itself is better looking than any mobile device ever. I have to say as a piece of hardware i like it better than any Ipod I have. That doesn't mean im getting rid of any of them though.......

email, youtube and tabs on the internet browser are a must! bluetooth has never been a big deal for me. Same w/ the the internal speaker, I don't care that everyone else can't hear my music.

They had 2 years. Microsoft had 2 years. The iPod touch was out for 2 years. They could've at least had some kind of decent Software Storefront developed in 2 years on WinMo to be easily transitioned into the Zune Marketplace. Not to mention XBLA.

I wasn't favoring one company or the other. I'm ripping on the people that think Apple and Microsoft can instantly develop features that they want. This is not like those Disney shows that all of these kids watch (corrupting American kids in my opinion).

Different companies have different design teams who have different ideas to each other. The ZuneHD is first and foremost a media device. Anything else will be added later, when they haven't got so much on their plate.

I wanted one but I can't get one. They aren't compatible with iHome's and I don't want that 100 dollars to flush down the drain! It seemed cool while it lasted, though.

The iPod Touch launched with 11 apps. Total. 11 things it could do. No downloadable apps. It didn't even MENTION letting people develop for it.

That's because you are in the unfortunate mental state of "aesthetics over functionality".

Oh wait, the iPhone interface is getting really old and has never made many advancements in functionality. I'm not trying to trash it's name because it is a good device. The iPod touch focuses way to much on apps and really takes away from the media and staple functionalities.

I feel that zune should be a little better since Microsoft is trying to use zune to murder the ipod touch, or at least make a nice dent in the apple sales. No internal speaker, are you kidding me, you guys are complaining about that, the iPod Touch's speakers are TERRIBLE (just like any other NON phone MOBILE device) Ex: The PSP
Anyways, the loading of apps like calculator and web browsing is absolutely terrible on a zune, but I have to admit that the Zunes OLED screen looks a bit better. The boxing it comes in is really nice, but funtionality, now cmon guys. No speaker buttons?

Zune's fine, but it needs work, I will admit that HD radio sounds neat.
Both devices can be improved, in the history of big companies, all always exclude some important things.

iPod Touch: Music, Games, Other Apps, the web, everything else, it dominates,

The iPod touch really isn't a PMP anymore because Apple is marketing it as a Pocket Computer/PGS (Portable Gaming System).

Darn. That's exactly what I was gonna say.

I just got one last month, and the only thing bad about it is the lack of accessories for it, and whatever accessories there is, its very expensive.

The Zune HD is in a different league on its own - its a Personal Media Player, where as the iPod is an MP3 player that does what a computer does, but smaller.

Oh, and I love the Zune software's 'all you can eat' music subscription service. It would be perfect for my Mom, as she doesn't want to spend that much for music. If there's a god (the one that doesn't wear a turtleneck) the iTunes would have a similar service. Only then, I'd buy another Apple product.
