Here is my question
when redsn0w for ipod touch 2g on fw 3.1 becomes available


Can i just update to fw 3.1 with out restoring, so i wont loose my cydia stuff

thats what really matters to me, cause it is a really pain in the neck to add all my 100s of sources again not to mention my packages

i know i can use pkg backup but that doesn't work 100% and my internet connection is very slow

So if i update my ipod touch 2g to fw 3.1 (with out restoring) then jailbreak with with redsn0w (when available) i will unselect cydia, so redsnow wont install cydia (assuming that the official update didn't delete cydia, just made it invisible)


considering that i am on fw 3.0, and 3.1 wouldn't be a major fw update

my logic is that official firmware updates (not restoring) don't delete jailbroken apps, they jusy become invisible, so if i jaibreak i think it is safe to assume that they will become available againg one it is jailbroken?



So what do you guys think, is it possible
did you ever did it with fw 2.0 to 2.1 or 2.2
i heard people on iphones did this to update from 3.0 to 3.01 (i know is not the same) but still.....

so please comment and share your opinions i will really appreciate that

no, you can't update without losing cydia stuff since all cydia stuff is on var.
EDIT: There is PwnageTool available now, it's on Mac though. For windows wait for greenpois0n.(no ETA). Also PwnageTool only jailbreaks 1g touch and 2g and 3g iPhone.

i know there is pwnage tool thats wjy i said when redsn0w becomes available

when you update all jailbroken apps become invisible, but dont get deleted, isnt that true?

so by jailbreaking again they would become visible once again

i know some people did this from fw 2.0 to 2.1 and 2.2.1
