I'd say letting your OS stagnate for a couple years ISN'T innovation.

The biggest innovation on the iPhone platform is the App Store. And the App Store drives its sales.

I would get one if the iPod touch didn't exist.... I have considered it but the iPod is more than enough for me.

Actually, it's not stupid. Stupid would be letting people download unlimited songs in one month for $15 and letting them keep all of them, possibly thousands of dollars worth. Think about it.

The point is to give people legitimate music. At least this way they will lose less to piracy.

idk, i think the zune is a great device, but its comparable to the ipod 1G. the 2G and 3G are better. when my ipod was getting boring, i jailbroke it and it became fun again. my parents would kill me if i asked for another media player.

I'd disagree with what you say; the zune HD surpasses the iPod touch in media player ability.

It really does, it's music player is amazing (you have to see it to believe me) and the video player is great too.

The low point (and it's a big one) is the lack of apps.

That said, the zune HD is a good competitor to all the iPod touchs. Including 2G and 3G.

I survived with an iPod touch 1st gen for the better part of a year, and it didn't have apps (unjailbroken, that is).

I didn't care for MS much either, until recently (as in Windows 7, Zune HD). They seem to have changed dramatically from the company that made me run to Linux, and buy the 600$ PS3....

I still won't buy an Xbox, though. Never will.

i will bet my iPt 3 that the OpenGL 2.0 optimized NFS Shift for iPhone ( confirmed 3GS optimized by EA ) will look 10x better than that crap. asphalt 5 and real racing look better than that anyway.

I doubt you've used it. I own a Zune HD and the screen washout in bright sunlight is about the same as an iPod touch. The OLED screen does not suck. It's amazing in terms of battery life and the colors are ridiculous. The iPods screen is not brighter, and it is only a little bigger. Don't make it sound like the Zune HD has a 1 inch screen and the iPod touch has a 4.2 inch screen. The slightly smaller screen on the Zune HD looks much better. You have fun with your slightly bigger screen that's washed out and sucks battery life on the same level as the U.S. government sucking in tax money.

From what I've seen, the Zune HD's interface really is good. I am completely split between it and the iPod touch (although this was just a brief use; about 5 minutes at Best Buy and an hour using a friend's).

Apple hasn't done anything like that since. They have let their products (for the most part) simmer down.

The only great thing that has been done since the introduction was the App Store. That was a step forward, certainly.

However, there were apps before that. I can remember syncing my Palm PDA years ago, and playing a puzzle game, so the apps themselves aren't as revolutionary as the delivery process.

My question to Apple; Will you let this be your biggest contribution? Or will you top it?

But for now, I look forward to my Zune HD. I'll decide for myself which is better; the iPod touch, or the Zune HD.

That was wonderful. Also, if Apple doesn't step up, Microsoft is going to be better then Apple (Pretty likely to happen). If Apple fails to step up, it's going to end up like the Sega-Dreamcast and have a massive drop in sales.

I agree with some of this. I was partially like that in August when I sold my iPod touch 2g (preparing to get the iPod touch 3g). I did broaden my view on things though. That's how I gained interest in the Zune HD which I had known about for almost the whole year. Release day came closer and closer and I just couldn't resist the Zune HD anymore. I was sick of putting up with Apple and all the fanboyism that is viewed with it. My choice was not made by anything social however. I really saw what the Zune HD had to offer. Everything besides applications. Applications happened to be the most frustrating part about the iPod touch/iPhone. There were way too many, and way too many bad/boring/unfunctional applications. Too crowded in my opinion. Better than the Zune's application selection? Yes, but it's nothing major for me. Once they get Twitter/YouTube/Facebook and an IM client, I'll be set. I don't know if all of those will be made, but they really should be. No YouTube/Twitter/IMing is the downfall. Anyways, this post is dragging on.

I don't agree that the Zune HD is revolutionary. For Microsoft alone, I say yes. They had to do something to compete with other companies. It's not revolutionary by industry standards though, but it has brought some new things. I say evolutionary, and really nice.

Here is where the design shows its ingenuity (however keep in mind I've had only limited use to the Zune HD; about 4 hours).

On the iPod touch, in direct sunlight, the screen doesn't reflect too badly.

However, the iPod touch's design makes it hard to look at. The reflective front (not the screen) reflect the sun nicely, which is just as blinding.

The Zune HD doesn't have that problem.

So, they both have a rough time on that one (but, then again, who goes out and watches a movie in direct sunlight? Nobody).

I don't know for sure or not if it is capable, but it doesn't that's the thing. Don't brag about something that it doesn't do. That's just desperate. Anyways, have you owned a Zune HD? Have you used somebody's, or did you test it in the store?

I used my friend's on a bus. Google it, a lot of websites say that the iphone 3gs can play hd videos on its screen.

Here is my problem with all this, though. The iPhone's screen is 320 by 480.

HD (720P, at the size of this screen, 3.5 in., 1080P and 720P would be basically the same), is generally 1280x720.

I believe the Zune HD is revolutionary because it bundles highend features into an aesthetically pleasing package, at an affordable price, backed by a company that is at least known, and trustable in most cases.

And honestly, the iPod touch hasn't seen much competition (or really any at all). I also like Microsoft's approach; they see it first and foremost as a media player, secondly as a handheld computer. That's good, in my eyes. They aren't against an App Store, but they want quality over quantity. I suppose that having Microsoft developers make the apps ensures that, for the most part. I'd rather have 100 awesome, amazing apps than 100,000 some-good-some-terrible apps, basically like the Apple App Store approach.

Just checked out several Zune HD videos on YouTube, and really, its pretty awesome looking. Honestly, yea, the AppStore is a mix of good and bad apps. With the basic apps you mentioned on the Zune, really I wouldn't mind switching over from my iPod Touch 2G to the Zune HD.
