Well, in my country, i had to pay $500 for the 8gb version. Around $650 for 16 gb, and this one will probably be around $780...

It's not that I need 32 gb, or 16 gb for that matter, but it sure sux paying the same price here for 8 gb that americans pay for 4x more (not that it's any different with pricing of other products, but yeah...)

Why are you mad? Mad at yourself? It's your decision to buy or not. I am happy with my 16gb, and I'm glad I spent the extra money to get it. Just like any technology, it is usually out-dated the day you buy it. Especially with Apple products...

Apple should offer an upgrade:

Trade in your old 8gig or 16gig touch and pay 100bucks to get the 32gig model.

yes but it's only 32gb . yeah i know it has a lot of space but no bluettoh added or any speakerphones on the sides. Don't you think the next one will come out like that. Also, you have 32 GB but if you can't use as an external drive then you know what screw it! plus, apple always comes up with a new one anyway... there is no way you can follow it...

aka. $499

Anyhoo, I'm still on the line about whether or not to get one. I think I might wait for them to ante up the battery life before I go out and get one. They should put a longer lasting battery in the touch.

Can anyone really be surprised by this?!? I'm certainly not...this is what happens with technology.

Im not. This is a fact of life. Companies design products to go out of style to get you to buy a newer fancier model with more memory lights and sounds. Apple probably won't allow those 2nd gen touches to be downgraded from 1.1.3 just to save themselves from more owners jailbreaking

kf6tac
02-05-2008, 10:31 AM
Eh, whatever. I wasn't even willing to pay $399 for 16GB, so it makes no difference to me that they're now selling a 32GB one for $499. Sure, I paid more dollars per GB to buy the 8GB Touch, but 8GB is all I need.

Yea I'm pretty pissed about this too but I'm sure many of the early adapters saw this coming. 16GB is really not that bad, seeing as how I load it up with a lot of tv shows(Seinfeld, King of Queens, Simpsons) and once I finish watching them I can erase em.

I'm already saving up for the next gen ipod so whatever. But then I'm gonna be an early adapter of that and a new bigger model will come out a few months after that gets introduced and well yea, the cycle will repeat. Oh well

there's a $100 dollar diffence between the iPod classic 80 and 160gb, which is 80 more gigs for $100, yet the 8 and 16gb ipod touches also have a $100 difference? . . .

I'm a little mad but don't care. If it had extra features and stuff like that... Like camera, bluetooth, basically the iphone without the phone. I would be furious. But it's only a memory upgrade. And besides, 16gb is enough for me. I don't load it with tons of music and videos and apps just a decent amount. I guarentee they did this because of the upcoming SDK and space issues. Because people will want tons of apps. I'm sure that people are right this cycle will repeat. Thats technology for you it just keeps getting bigger and better and more expensive haha

Anybody want to start a rally to get 32GB iPods if we pay apple 100$ and give them or 16GB or 200$ and an 8GB, that makes me mad, I mean I got it 3 months ago, at least last time I waited a year then the 80GB video comes out, but no, this time, 3 months later you screw me. As for you guys who bought one the other day, I am extreamly sympathetic for you, but probably still just as angry as you as well. One more thing to think about though, would you want to pay more for a 32GB or was the 399 all you were willing to spend in the first place?

brandon311

Yep, it's the fact of Apple.
Double the memory = $100 more.
8GB ($299) x2 = 16GB ($399)
16GB ($399) x2 = 32GB ($499)

It doesn't really affect me, my parents were furious paying $399 to start with.
And 16GB is more than enough for me.
I can always remove some music or movies which I don't watch anymore.

I'll become a ranter once they include hardware features such as speakers, BlueTooth (I don't really see Apple's point if they add this :P) Etc.
My Apple iPod Touch hardware is solid enough for me, until it gets updated.

Go compare prices per GB on 1.8" drives, and per GB flash. It isn't Apple's fault this stuff is so pricey. Actually, they are selling so many Nanos and iPhones that they are probably helping drive the prices down faster. There are various levels where one iPod or another is a better value, but flash storage is just plain expensive.

This will be a hard decision. I just got my 16GB (dropping from a 30GB 5G), and I originally was hoping for 32. But, I can return it for a while, yet. I wish it was only a $50 difference, I'd return it tonight and order a 32GB. $100 seems....too high.

The price is pushin' it.
In Australia the Apple Store has it at $629Aus... About $560US.
A bit beyond what I could convince myself to throw away on a cool gadget.

For all the folks who say "8Gigs is enough", well, I thought that too. But it creeps up on you. It does fill up and you're starting to juggle things... deleting stuff you don't need so much.
More memory is Good. Just too expensive right now.

Personally, I will await the the Touch2, or iPhone3G. The next generation whenever it comes.

Okay,

i mean, some people have tons of songs and movies and still have tons of free space on their 8GB.

There are a lot of things you can buy with $500

Okay, there goes..
PS3, homebuilt computer, Shopping for clothes, or save that.

8 GB ftw! although I do have 15 GB of crap.

sure is. pretty 499.99 plus tax for the new ipod/iphone is just a crazy mad scienist's idea

They could have been nice, and simply come out with a slightly new model that included a baby SD slot. I read somewhere that you'll be able to buy a 32GB mini-sd card any minute now.

So... I have an ancient, fat, 1gb mustek mp3/video player. It has a SD card slot. It cost me $99. For the $100ish that 32gb SD card will cost I'll have a 33gb mp3 player.

I am not going to pay $500 just to have more space.....

And by the way, who knows if Apple is not putting some software on the new one so you cant jailbreak it with the old methods again??? then we have to find a new method again......
That would suck if you buy a new iPod for $500 and then you cant jailbreak it....

i mean get real here , if u want a ipod with alot of memory then u wouldnt spend 500 bucks for the a 32GB ipod. if u want alot of memory then get a ipod classic which can hold 160Gb with a lower price then a 500 dollar ipod

When did it go down to $360. I'm looking at the page and it still says $399.

Are you talking about the brief period of time Apple was getting rid of the 1.1.2 ones with none of the new features?

you have too look at walmart website the 360 there

used 16 gb ipod touches are selling for 250 on ebay. + mine is jailbroken, so can't i get even more money for it?

Try it then tell us! but not really they won't sell for more, a lot more people know about the jailbreaking process, so even if you where to sell your used iPod 16GB for about 450 you still owe ebay and paypal, so your pretty much screwed and you only get...

about 400 on average, yes what you spent (if you where lucky)

I bought mine for 392, from Apple with the Discount they where handing out tru email.

You know, many people whine about how high the price is, but the fact remains that these new 32GB touches will sell. There are still plenty of people out there who haven't even ventured to the touch yet, and that's what Apple is banking on, I'm sure.

For me, my Touch is not my primary iPod for music at least. I still have a 5G that's loaded with my music library. It sounds slightly better than the Touch anyway. I bought the Touch primarily for movie viewing while I'm traveling. Sure, I have some music on there, but when I really need a portable music player, I'm using the 5G. All that's to say, I'm not too disappointed that the 32GB version is out. I didn't buy my iPT to fill it up all the time; I bought it with the intention of doing lots of manual library management. It's been a great purchase and one that I don't regret.

awesome, but $500 is a lot of money. my main concern with apple is more about their 'next generation' upgrades. like when ipod touch v2 comes out, then i'll be like aww. i don't really care about a 32gb model though as my ipod touch isn't my primary music device. i have an 80gb ipod i dedicate to my music. my touch is my video & mobile internet device. definitely don't need more than 16gb to accommodate that. :D

EVERYONE LISTEN UP! stop freakin whining about this new ipod touch. have you learned anything about technology lately, especially from Apple? my god! they are always coming about with new things. the second you buy something, it is old. that's how it works. they want you to pay more! so stop complaining. if you feel that every single time you get mad when something new comes out, then don't buy anything! because you never can stay up to date with technology! In conclusion, i want you all to SHUT UP!

Sorry, I only read a couple of pages, so if this has been covered, I apologize.

It's the natural progression of things. Afterall, I can remember years ago when the Ipod was out after only a year or so, and other companies came out with MP3 players that were bigger and cost less. I bought a Creative Labs 20 gig player for like $50 less than the comparable iPod. That one was stolen, and I bought the next generation CL Sleek, and again, it was $50. But for the same price as a comparable Ipod, I could get the CL with 30 gigs and it was a video player as well. Everything gets bigger. Look at how you can get an iPod Classic in 160 gig size.

Keep in mind, Apple knows that you all want bigger and better flashy gadgets. The marketed and created the iPod Touch and iPhone specifically for the this kind of crowd. And I saw that someone thought that maybe the new iPhone's and iTouch's would have the 1.1.3 apps. I don't think that they do. Makes more sense for them to offer twice the capacity for only $100 more and still have you pay extra for all of the apps.

Just my $.02

I love how everyone disses Apple. Yah know if it wasn't for them you wouldn't even be posting in the forum this very second. It wouldn't even exist. If you hate Apple so much return or sell your "old outdated 8GB iPod Touch" and go buy a new 80GB Zune for half the price of the 32 GB iPod touch. Seriously give it a rest. It's technology. Haven't you seen a pattern? Everything is updated. Especially with Apple.

I know you can do that, but with iPod touch, I hope your a solder god with the right memory to replace it, its not as easy as the old hard drive swap, besides I doubt anyone has the balls to operate on their touch like that unless they have the money to go out and buy a 32GB if they break theres in the process of trying to put in new memory, thats so risky its not even funny. Can you imagine how small the pins are and how many there are on the memory chips.

the ipod runs off of flash memory not a hard drive, thats how they are so thin. if you added a hard drive it would probably being twice as thick as the iphone.

I really coudnt care... Im just extremly happy they didnt update the hardware with a new feature... THEN I would buy a new one. But I have lots of space on my 16gb so Im good for now. :)

How do you know they didn't update the HW (other than larger memory) and they're just not saying so? There are things 'touch owners have been crying for like BT and Wi-Fi 801.11n that could suddenly be available on some models of 'touch via a later "software" update.

I have an 8 GB too. But the only thing that takes up a lot of space are videos, especailly those "24" episodes from itunes. Cmon, 500 MB for a 40 min episode? They should make different downloads for different devices to help save space. but i guess once you've seen the episode, its pretty boring to watch it again. 8 GB RULES MY HEAD!

So unfair! 16Gig difference on 32G and 16G. Just look how puny 8GB is...gosh. Apple is not only good with techs but they are even way better at ripping people's money, eh? They've planning this shit the whole time. It's business, what do I say.
$500 is a lot of money but 16GB and $100-$200 differences seems fine. I guess I had to sell my 8GB iPoT. I just wish someone would buy it. Or wait until Apple raises down the prices to make them balance...if that's going to happen..shit.

over 600 dollars for an iPOD!!!!!

$500 is a ridiculous price considering theyre probably releasing the second gen iPod sometime at the end of this year after the release of the 3G iPhone. My guess is that the new iPod will have a larger storage capacity and it will come in more than one color. Not to mention, it will probably still cost $500. Myself personally, I will not purchase anymore iPods - my next big purchase will be the iPhone since my Verizon contract is running out soon.

I heard that when you get the iPod Touch 32gb, that you already get the v1.1.3 5 Apps that come with it. Is that true? And if so, how the hell are u gonna put 3rd party Apps onto something already updated besides downgrading and losing your apps, hmm?

You are correct in your observation and yes you will have to downgrade, then upgrade. You will regain your apps through what the jailbreak community has been able to come up with, so it really isn't that big of a deal.

Now wait, here's my next question but before that, I also got note that iTunes locks onto to your ipod's serial number and if I already purchased or in this case opened the box new of the v1.1.3 apps then when I update and jailbreak into v1.1.3 then I'll have my apple original apps right? I basically don't need the jailbroken v1.1.3 iphone apps then am I correct?

OK guys and gals correct me here if I am wrong.

I have a 16 gig Touch. I have over 1200 tunes 4 movies. 240 picts, etc. Now I look at the Apple page on the 32 gig Touch. I could put on an additional 10 movies and 400 for tunes. Probably more.

Lets see according to Apple I get 5 hours of video time. What real good is the extra space. I have to recharge. I take a 4 hour flight. I still have to recharge. I can only watch 2 movies on the flight. I know, the stuff is still on the Touch.

Unless you are going somehwere for a week. You can watch only so many movies, and listen to so much music. So at home, I recharge and re-sync. No big deal. Now if I did not have a Touch, I would pop for the 32, stupid not to.

Wait 6 months for them to update the battery life, then go for it. OR--

Buy the 16 gig. Use the extra $105 to purchase this:

If the capacity is bigger, and you put more stuff in, isn't the battery goes down faster without jailbroken?
I heard that to long your battery, you need to erase movies you watched that takes up a lot of space. If apple didn't come out with new battery system, how could people use

I don't know much about how electronics works. But I can't see this being the case. It is not a moving harddrive, so I can't figure out how it could possibly make a difference how big the chip is.

I will prolly buy the 16gb iphone for me and jailbreak it so I can use it for T-mobile. As for my 16gb touch, I can give it to my gf, she has been jealous of me ever since I bought my touch.

Not me. The 8 gig. is more than enough for me. I do not have that much music that I really like all the time. I only have one full length movie that I bought from Itunes that I really care about. And I tend to use my Touch as a PDA anyway, so 8 gigs. is plenty for now. I wish but, only wish they had sd card support but, maybe in another time they will. And though I like the new apps, I must admit the apps that one can use from jailbreaking your Touch are even better.

That's a good idea. Although I use my MP3 player in my car. So it is constantly holding a charge, and it simply plays all fo the music that my 20 giger holds. Last year, I went though the less than full capacity twice. So that is one decent reason for having a 32 giger, if you constantly have a power source and you don't want to lug around a ton of CD's.

Just a little reality check, the battery of the iPod Touch will inevitably be forced to update once the 3G iPhone comes out late 2008. It is probably then that there will be price cuts and the battery-life of all iPod Touch models will be upgraded along with it, except unlike the iPhone, the iPod Touch has no burden of draining power with the 3G network, which means that the iPod Touch will be a great buy. Sure you could go out and buy the 32GB now, but understand that a new model with longer battery life is definitely coming our way, and by the time that comes, don't go regretting about how you wished you could have stuck with your 16GB and waited a bit longer before you got your 32GB.

32 gb? wtf, who needs so much space?

i got 16gb because i thought the jailbreaking would take space, but it didnt.
still have 13gb free space at it, and thats more then enuff for me.

Well. Anyone who didn't expect this doesn't know Apple. They update and update and update. They always have. Your devices go from new to old in a matter of months. It may be an annoyance for customers, but it definitely profitable for Apple.

I do not know if this would work for the Ipod touch... But if it does... It would be well worth the try.

Most iPod Touch news from Google these days is about a pending price cut. Makes perfect sense, as the whole reason for upping memory was because memory chips were getting larger and cheaper. Essentially a 32gb chip costs today what the 16gb chip cost 6 months ago. The $100 price hike is pure profit/greed, which Apple can get from the truly rabid fans and might as well. The price will come down and everyone else will then think they are getting a GREAT deal even though Apple will still be making a great profit. With dropping electronics parts prices, the iPod profit margin grows every month as the costs get lower. The longer they can keep the Touch in production the richer they get. If they can cycle us three or four time with added-value (memory upgrade is one added-value cycle) their stock will quickly climb back into the stratosphere. I'll bet they eventually do the same thing again with a 64gb memory option, where the momentary new price will be $100 higher than the 32gb model. A few months later, after the ripe fruit is all picked, the price will slide down to where the 32gb model had settled at before.

Only 300? I had 1900 on my 16GB and 25 videos (episodes of tv shows)

I just exchanged my 16GB for a 32GB today and I am sure I will have the 32GB filled before tomorrow is over. Mind you, I manually manage my music. iTunes is reporting that I have some 6000 tracks right now... so I have to pick and choose still.

well this is my 1st post and i have yet to buy my ipod touch because I was waiting for more space. I currently have a 1st gen ipod nano (2g) and I learned right there to wait for the better ipods. 32g would be perfect for me and i have the money to buy one but i can't seem to hit buy because of the lack of flash in safari. With all this talk about having a longer battery life in the newer ipods in sept. it makes me want to wait longer. Does jailbreaking the ipods decrease the battery life? cuz the extra battery life and storage would be key for me, also if they would include flash

IF you were just going to play music/videos and have a huge collection why didnt you get the classic which is cheaper and double the memory?

i do sympathize people who just bought a 16gig and now the release of a 32gig is coming
