Delayed...

I'm really sorry that I have to do this... I really thought that I could make my May 2nd deadline. Before you get too peeved with me, remember that I've taken on this project all by myself. I've put in about 26 hours on this, this week alone. And somehow, I'm STILL not done. I ran into a couple of bugs with the Other.artwork file and some transparency issues. I eventually figured out a work-around, but I'm still not completely satisfied. All of that fiddling with that file put me back some time. I think I've finally those done for all color variations, but now there's the little matter of the 21 summerboard themes with 250+ icon support. Needless to say, I'm going to have to keep working on this. Here's a little picture of some of the work that I've done this week:

Know that I'm doing my absolute best, and working as fast as I can. I'm hoping that sometime late next week I'll be able to deliver, but I can't be certain. (I'm going out of town with my family to celebrate my graduation) I know this is frustrating, but please be patient.

I'm really liking the little buttons on the bottom of that safari skin, ... they look even better on my ipod.

I've decided that I would make two versions of some of the regular dock icons. That is, there will be circular versions as well as some with transparent backgrounds. Several of you have also expressed that you didn't like the "wmp" style dock - so I whipped this one up, too. I'm quite pleased with it, but you can let me know what you think:

I think the dock looks good. Even though it's a WMP style it's very different. I feel like the Safari icon is a little out of place, the circle that it's in I mean.

That's a great point - I definitely know what you mean about juggling between circles and other shapes. So do you think that the safari icon should be just like all the other icons on the bar?

lol - I figured I'd pick a few icons and let you choose which one you wanted in the middle... I was thinking Safari, Music, Mail, Installer, and Launcher

Sure - (Though this will be my last post this evening, I really do have to start my 10pager due tomorrow ;))
To do that little trick, there are just a few steps:
Place all the icons for your theme in the same psd, on different layers
Go over to your actions tab and create a new action called "Save Icons" or something like that
Next you make sure all your layers are invisible except for the very first one. Hit your record button and start your saving - Save the first one off as.. I dunno "Installer.png" for example, then turn off the visibility for that one, turn on the next one and save it off as "Calendar.png" - the action is recording every single little thing you do, so it knows what to do next time you play it. It helps to name the layers the same thing as the icon itself.
I could post a tutorial about explicitly how to do this with screenshots and stuff, if you like ;)

I, personally like the WMP look to it. It isn't anything like any of the other WMP themes I've seen where people try to make their iPod look as much like a windows computer as they can. I like how she's keeping it classy, not crappy (like windows)

Just one suggestion: Try making all the icon 'icons' the same size.
I mean, compare the YouTube icon (first, second row) to the other icons, it is slightly bigger than the rest.

Looks pretty cool. The only problem that I have with this type of theme though is that all of your apps need an icon, or they stick out like a sore thumb, and I have a bunch of semi- obscure apps.

So nice to here something new from you :) So i hope you keep your work on other themes too.Maybe there is a easier way to install the YourTheme like the first Theme that you made.Somethink with Blue Bars.Is the same but with non transparent icons and you just need it to copy and your ready.

4 icon dock is a must these days with the newer firmwares. Also, like most themes, icon support is going to be paramount. Too many themes with too few icons, just ruins the whole effect. I love the work you do, I hope you keep it up =)

A 4 icon dock should work quite beautifully with this theme, actually - so there's no need to worry ;) In fact, this one scales quite nicely. Because you'll have two versions of the dock icons, you have some choices about the look, as well:

I love your graphic arts AppleTree and I love the theme. However, the dock is horrible. I put many of my important icons in the dock and want it to stand out so I can get to them quickly. Perhaps messing around with a couple colors or textures would prove to my liking. But, then again, I could modify the .psd file to my liking.

In terms of the music skins... I think I'll stick with the ones on the first post. Frankly creating these variations is taking up a ton of my time and is consequently pushing back my release date further and further. I'll continue to give this theme love even after I release, though :)

^^As for a release date - I'm really not quite sure... only that it will be a while - as I said in my initial post, I've got my thesis to write this week and next... and I don't have a ton of time to be putting into it, at the moment. I'll post an actual date the minute I have a better grasp on what I have left. At least two weeks, I'd say... but probably a bit more than that. I'm so sorry for the long wait! This project ended up being a lot more involved than I previously realized.

It might stick out better or if you use a different backround not look so out of place with blue icons? I like it, but as you know I'm a transparency whore so I'll always go for that before anything else. xD

lol... well, I'm sorry to say you'll have to wait until my thesis is done :) Hopefully you won't need a psd, cause I plan to support all of the most popular apps (and any unusual ones requested in this preview thread) - nevertheless, I'll be glad to include one just in case ;)

One of the things that will be handy about the summerboard part is that I've built the psd in such a way that I should be able to make color variations very quickly. Once I've made every icon once, I'll be able to change the shape or style and save off a new theme in a matter of seconds. (WOOT for adobe actions!)
For instance - I was thinking about doing another version of the summerboard themes with a glass rim around them... I haven't really decided yet though... thoughts/feelings?

Well, my favorite color is dark blue. Also, since one of my coworkers shattered the screen on my phone, I'm probably not the best to test this out. Not to mention that I am on 1.1.4. I guess I just failed at this thread.

However, I will be going out and getting a new phone thus coming Saturday (the nearest Apple Store is just about an hours' drive away from where I live.

I think for the time being, at least until Saturday, that I will have to pass. And also hope that I don't cut my finger open on my screen...

Thanks for almost letting me try this :) I'll get you out a copy if PocketTouch, whether or not you're interested, the next time I'm online and not on my phone.

Why should it make me to have restoring after that ? Well i tryed it more than 1 time with different keyboars now.They dont work.But if I copy my backuped files and rewrite the customized one... it works again.

Not sure if this has been suggested before..but I think it would be a great if you could merge the volume knob with the volume bar so that they look like just one entity filling up the bar..rather than the knob sliding along the bar...

all of this must of taken you ages to do and design. Like the other artwork stuff. When i edited the other.artwork for a theme i wanted to match with it took me a long long time. And you have done so much of it.

The other.artwork rules me out, as I'm on 1.1.4. I'm thinking though that it might be useful if I made an app that changes the other.artwork automatically.

Or, maybe it won't be.

I would of thought the iphoneshop thing that extracts the other.artwork would have done something to be able to extract the artwork from 1.1.4. Thats why i am still on 1.1.2 cause i like to edit the other.artwork.

So if you could make something that you can edit the artwork in 1.1.4 i would definetly use it.

This is because I had tried using a volume knob that was supposedly invisible but found it very difficult to adjust the volume that way.

The dock looks great now, I'm sorry I'm getting back to you this late, had trouble finding this thread. Anyway, I think you should try different variations of the color of this dock on the blue. For example: A nice shade of maroon or reddish tint may be worth trying (or any other colors that might look nice [give yellow a try]. I think your first dock looks a little better now since you changed the wallpaper (which looks absolutely wonderful may I mention). Hopefully, your theme will look great in the end :). Keep up the good work!

When this theme comes out, what firmwares will it be available in? Would it be easy to make a version compatible with 1.1.3 after the theme for 1.1.2 is completed?

Anyway, I really like the theme TheAppleTree. I am %99.9999 sure that I will use it on my Itouch(The other %0.00001 allowing for abnormalities) the only thing I don't like about it is the fact that the calender Icon looks a bit out of place. I personally think that it should look the same as the rest.

hey apple tree. There are other.artwork edits for 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 now. If you check the release threads people are editing them. Just wanted u to know just incase you didnt. But yeh that would be fantastic if its possible to edit that after all your other work when you have the time.

Well i think from looks of it. It 1.1.3 can handle more then 1.1.2 now cause you can skin the keyboard too.

I am willing to upgrade to 1.1.3 and test for you if your going to do it. I am on 1.1.2 and its all skinned so upgrading wont work properly so I have to do the process again. But if you're really thinking about doing it. Then I will happily help you out testing as many themes as you want for the other.artwork on 1.1.3

Well, as long as we're being critical, the Phone icon looks like it is slightly too large for for the small dock. Sorry, I didn't put the small dock back on to notice the icon size until just a few minutes ago.

I still haven't had the time to really test out the glassy version.

I can send you another screenshot if you want to see it.

On another note, I was showing my coworkers something on my phone, and they all loved the theme.

you are right the one with the rim is pretty good
but the dock icons are too close colored to the dock so i put the white dock icons with it and it looks good

Oh also, the theme you sent me looks GREAT with a black background. I accidentally found that out while playing with Customize 2.0A16.

Skylar made me try out the theme with a black background and WOW. That looks really good. The glass effect looks awesome on that. The green theme is fantastic. I have to say, the glass is definitely my favorite. It looks really smooth.

okay so i just tried orange with a straight black wallpaper

and it looks alot worse than the normal background imo, it lets you see exactly all the little imperfections and stuff in the glass rimmage, which i don't notice on the normal one

however i turned theme wallpaper off to see if that would make it black and my MotP wallpaper showed through, and i think that'd look amazing with the purple one
