Yea, I have a 5th generation iPod Video (not 5.5th...) and I tried to install the classic firmware modification on my iPod but I ended up with a constant boot-loop. What I did was I opened the file with iPod-Wizard using the "Firmware File" selection and then I clicked "Write to iPod". It didnt work. I used this (http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=30444) for the project. Anyone have any ideas? Perhaps I should download resources and images and manually install it?

It is very unstable and can easily cause your unit to brick or crash. I did attempt it, and I ended up having to restore my iPod because of basically the same problem you had.

You didnt have to restore, if you had another working firmware file handy you could have written that to the iPod. Oh well, once it gets more stable and more updated, Im gonna do it and take it to an Apple Store and show off. :P

I completely disagree. Unless you dont know what you're doing everything goes out fine.
Simple you put the 5G firmware with the 5G iPod, and the 5.5G firmware with the 5.5G iPod, you put the wrong one and you got yourself a problem.

And bluntly, its nearly impossible to brick your iPod. Trust me, theres been times where i've tried to prove it, and it all works out with a simple restore.

I got it to work, but it isn't that great so far......im just waiting for a later release . The menu transitions are awful, but it does look great. I hate purchased songs on itunes not working on my ipod.

How'd you get the classic firmware working on the 5G? Can you upload your firmware file?

Use my TUT. It uses the image files instead of the .bin firmware. It has a higher chance of working.
For some reason, using the firmware dosn't work unless you already have the backgrund hack installed.

ITs so cool. Has anyone checked IPW recently? They made 4 or 5 different versions of the classic to 5g. They are awesome.

my bad!
But response for the new 2.1 Classic release - it's not nearly as aesthetically pleasing as the 2 release. For example - the right side does not show album art, some menus show on the right side, the search function still overlaps in text, the Now Playing menu's text is not evenly distributed, and when loading a movie - the spinning circle has a strange background. This version is not nearly as stable or as aesthetically pleasing as the previous version. If you are downloading this, I highly advise downgrading to 1.2.1 and getting the 2 release.

I did it a long time ago when I actually had my Boot Camp working because SOMEONE can't code iPodWizard to be used in OS X :D
Hey guys, I was one of the lead devs for this project.
http://driven-design.net/
Then click on "Classic Project" on top.
Scroll down, and click "5G rapidshare" under 1.2.2. Here's the direct link:

Anyway, this version is very stable and fixes many bugs from v1.

I have tried to put the classic firmware on my 5.25 iPod video. I only got the touch firmware to work.
