I'm just curious, because I have ran into it a few times. 'NES', 'TTR', 'Red' Alert. and a few more I can't remember.

yes, please. I'm still a newbie (i dont even have my touch yet) and i've been trying to learn as much as possible by reading up and use searching, but its kinda hard when it restricts you. especially such important stuff like ssh, ftp, bsd, nes, rom, i could go on forever

I agree, it's hard to find what you're looking for sometimes, if it is 3 letters. So you're forced to ask a question about it but then get shot down for repeating a question.
It's a painful cycle:(

I think 3CKO is referring to the 10 character limit on forum posting. This is enforced generally to stop people posting just smilies or obscenities.

The 10 character limit is put in place to encourage quality posting. Like thomas said we do not want people just posting smilies.

the 3-letter restriction not only applies to the first word, but other words in the phrase as well. i searched "ssh via the cable" and got kicked back for "ssh", "via", and "the".

I agree I don't know how many times I've hit that limit. But it certainly shows me how many three letter combinations are out there.

I suspect this will slow down the search a lot, but perhaps this will reduce the amount of repeat posts.

I agree that 3 letter searches should be allowed, purely for the fact there are many 3 letter phrases that crop up on these forums like you say (NES, TTR, SSH, etc).

I will put it to BGizzle in our Moderator Lounge.
