The touch has no microphone (or any peripheral) so far, so no, no Skype or any other VoIP client is in development yet.

Cause from what i've heard some of the phone hardware is still in the iTouch...
so who nows...maby in the future we will be able to adopt also a phone app in there? No bad as idea....not bad at all, i say//

Are the iphone headphones not just regular iPod headphones with a smaller adapter? Regardless, this isn't going to happen. It takes quite a bit of processing power and more than the 802.11b that the iPod has to work well for data transfer on a network like skype.

Furthermore have you looked at an iPod and and iPhone next to each other? The iPod is a lot thinner, it's obviously missing hardware the iPhone has.

Long story short Apple left out the bluetooth and microphone so people couldn't just turn their iPod into a phone.. Obviously now that these things are unlocked, people could work on it, but without this hardware present, youll have to wait for some sort of microphone adapter. I honestly don't see anyone going to the trouble though.

I wonder sometimes if I should have just bought the iPhone.. Oh, well, maybe for christmas.

image 12-1 on that ifixit page:
the 3.5mm jack seems to have four pins!!!
In usual cases it is only 3: Gound, L-oout, R-out.
If Apple is trying to minimize every HW portion,
why is then there an extra pin? We need to
get in contact with the guys who wrote the Voice Recorder
SW for the iPhone, maybe they know sthng more..
