I had an idea about getting the appstore on the touch for free, since openSSH works on 2.0 why doesn't someone just upload the appstore from their iPhone/iPod and we can SSH and install it. (i'm talking about when 2.0 is officially released and the appstore works)

The app store, is free... so far at least, however the apps on the app store are not.

I think since it's a beta, things might change..
and we have to wait till june to get our hands on the new firmware..

I think he's talking about when 2.0 is officially released, someone SSHs into their touch with a purchased copy and distributes it.

I don't know about you guys, but I am paying for the app store. I am not going to steal. I paid for my January software upgrade and I plan on paying for the App Store. It's only going to be like $1.99 anyway. :P

There is no openssh in the real 2.0 In the custom 2.0 there is.

If u load music on your ipod after u "iPwn" u can keep that music even if u put your 2.0 custom firmware on - just hold shift- click update.

that will never work even now when people try it on earlier firmwares like 1.1.3/4 it crashes when u click on it. even on the betas of 2.0 it crashes except 5a247d and 5a258f builds. smart thought but think again

well i dont think normal apps from here work on the 2.0........ so wont apps from 2.0 not work on normal firmwares (not 2.0)

let me tell u something. APPLES NOT STUPID. they will check every app on the appstore and make sure it doesnt work on 1.1.3/4 or any other firmware. will that stop hackers? no but apple will find away to fix it up

Dude, I don't know what your smokin' but I got a leaked copy of the 2.0 firmware and its on my ipod. I have ssh also. It works too. I just used winpwn for the 2.0 part, and ziphone for the ssh part. It works perfectly. try it out. P.S. SSH Does WORK!!!

you know, I'm sick of people comparing internet piracy to robberies, riping off a multi-million dollar company is completely different then ripping off some guys store. And you know what? the firmaware upgrade and the app store should be free, because we all know damn well that apple is going start shipping new touch's with the new firmware, screwing over the early adopters. Besides do you think the ipod touch would have been half as successful as it has been if there was no jailbreaking and no free apps, i sure as hell wouldn't have bought one.

ok, i think whats going on here is that when the 2.0 app store enabled firmware comes out on june 9th, the firmware can be jailbroken..... thanks to winpwn... that means we will be able to ssh into it right? so say if somebody buys an app from the app store, they could just ssh into it and port them over to a device that has the new firmware 2.0 with app store and ssh on it and be able to use it if they instal it corectl;y

You can do it yourself.

Download the Img3 unpacker cmw made on iphonelinux.org, and download the newest leaked version of the iPhone or iPod touch 2.0 (5A274d).

Decrypt it and copy the AppStore and iTunes over via SSH to your iPod/iPhone. You have to have 1.2 or 2.0 installed on your iPod/iPhone for it to work though. In other words, it won't work on 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, or 1.1.4.
