it also costs a lot more, if you buy high-end parts, or premades.

Sometimes. If you deck it out with dual SLI video cards and an Intel quad core 3.0 ghz w/ a 1066 FSB, then yeah.
I built my editing computer for around $800. Intel Core 2 2.66 1066FSB, Audigy 2 sound card, 1TB raid...etc. It cruises when rendering.

Come to think of it, Krazie, if you're looking for money, you should fix computers. IF you're good with that sort of stuff, you can charge 100 - 200 dollars per computer (depending on what's wrong with it. Check out your local Best buy or Curcuit city and ask for a list of services that they charge for, and shave 50 - 100 bucks off their price)
The only problem I have with it is that when you do it, you're then married to that computer. If anything else goes wrong, they'll call you.
Good money though. I only do it for friends and close friends to keep the drama down to a minimum.

Thanks for the advice andyandy6464 =]
that's pretty Crafty. 200 or 100 a computer repair?
i'll try that..but, i didnt gain any experience because im stuck on this stupid slow laptop that shuts down everytime it overloads.
@Collateral.
Yes, I know.but you only have to buy High-ends if you're a hardcore gamer or taking seriously on web designing, music production/mixing, video editing or grapics design or editning like photoshop..
I only need a decent one, i dont need quad-core CPU's.
a dual-core will work for me.
256MB GFX card..or 512 // 2GB of RAM
and 250 or more GB of storage.
I just want my future computer to be vista-compatible. [sorry apple fanboys..stupid fckers]
Plus, i recycled my old computer that broke during summer, the case..that is
and its CDdrives and recorders.
i might consider buying a DVD-R for all in one functionality
haha =]

You learn with experience. I've been messing around with computers since i was little.
Anyway...do you want advice on what to put in a new rig? or...?
I wouldn't go with 512MB of RAM. Vista reccomends at LEAST 1GB. I have 2GB on this machine (photoshop + DVD authoring) and 4 of my other (video editing)

Well, first things first:
What do you want to be able to do with it? What will you be using it primarily for?
