Some of our readers may be too young to remember Chip's Challenge, but for those of us that are older, this screenshot may bring back fond memories of Windows 3.1 (or 95) goodness.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f7/Chip%27s_Challenge.png

Thanks to Virtualball's ongoing efforts, we can get our hands on a working (albeit somewhat buggy version) of his iPod touch port today! To be exact, it's actually a port of "Tile World, an 'emulator' for Chip's Challenge," but it's pretty hard to tell the difference. The release notes and download link are below.

http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/2879/img0009pr2.png
http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/7531/img0010dg9.png

Here's the current build. I'm releasing it because we all know how I am with deadlines and keeping with projects... ;) So... have fun!

Problems:
When win/lose, need to close and reopen to go to next level/restart
Help box is a little small, needs to be resized
Only launches from SSH/MobileTerminal. If you come up with a fix TELL ME! :)

There's no point in putting it in the installer. I mean, the installer doesn't even %&^$*% work for me:mad:! I am sick of having to delete the remotepackages file every time I start the damn thing and then wait for 30 minutes while it refreshes the %^(D&^%* souces!!!!! I think that application developers should boycott the installer until they get this damn thing fixed. It's really pissing me off!!!.........sorry I had to vent a little..

then don't install it.

it clearly states that you need to use ssh or terminal. otherwise, it won't work.

Well, you put the "usr" folder's files in the correct folder heirarchy. So, you put tworld in /usr/local/share/ (IIRC) you but the tworld binary where ever you want. I put it in the root, but you could also put it in /bin/. Do not forget to chmod it!

To launch:

1. SSH
A. SSH into your iPod/iPhone
B. type "tworld" if it's in /bin/ or "/tworld" if it's in root.
C. Have fun! If you want to close it, press Ctrl+C or just close the SSH window.

2.MobileTerminal
A. Download Term-Vt100
B. Open it, the password on 1.1.3-1.1.4 is "alpine" without the quotes. Type that and press return.
C. type "tworld" if it's in /bin/ or "/tworld" if it's in root.
D. If you want to close it, click menu and exit the terminal.

Hope this helps!

EDIT: Also, here's a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJLRJhPpkXk hahaha I just played it with sound, I forgot to turn my iTunes off XD Sorry! :) :p

Well I dont usually gave that problem. My problem is that everytime I start up the application, it will crash upon opening. This can be remedied by going into mobile finder and deleting the remotepackages file in the installer folder. The only problem with that is that when I do that and restart the installer app, it will the autorefresh whic usually takes at leadt 30 minutes for me. I have also noticed that in the Cydia packager when I install something, it prings up some kind of error. I cant remember what it is because I havent installed anything in a while. I'll have to do more research on it.

But the ipod version is shitty.

I'm sorry if I sound like a douche because I've had a bad day, but I didn't need to release this. I told you it wasn't ready. I told you there were bugs. I told you I have much more important things to do than port games and release them. I'm sorry but I have a lot of shit on my plate right now and I could take the ipodhacker way out and just leave. I enjoy coming to this site and doing things but when I release an alpha product because people wanted it, I would appreciate more criticism about why it sucks. Don't tell me it just sucks and say another game would be better.

Sorry for being a douche.

For people who are having trouble with terminal, I made a quick launcher. If you put tworld in /bin, this should launch it, however I can't find out how to make it quit without restarting the ipod, so the terminal version is sort of better, but this is a start. If this is your icon, i will change it. If anyone knows how to make it quit with the homebutton, please edit the file. I know this is almost useless, but Im just doing it for the people who cant get used to terminal. Great app by the way

I'm not sure but I think that the quote is for HW Info. It is an app used for checking the hardware of one's iphone/ipodtouch. I'm fine w/ you using it and I don't own the app but I also think that it is a really fitting pic for the app.:D

Pay no attention to the peanut gallery. There are plenty of people who seem to exist for the sole purpose making those of us who contribute something look even better for their utter lack of contribution. It's a good thing, really; it helps to more clearly distinguish the line between those who do and those who just complain that it's not being done right -- which just makes it easier to pick them out and ignore them while they slouch on the sofa in their stained wife-beaters and ratty mullets and holler at their wives/mothers to make them a damn sammich. :D

Me, I loved Chip's Challenge. Played it on the Atari ST and Lynx. Great logic game. If you do get time of course a Springboard version would really kick things up for the CLI-o-phobics, but I'd say this is a great start -- at least it works to some degree. :)

if you mean the app launcher i made, you first need to install the initial download off of the first page and put it in the correct folders. Then put the launcher in /Applications and make sure you have Jiggy runtime installed
