Ok, so i made this application a while back who don't remember, to change your firmware tag, however it was in Jiggy and I felt it did not meet the needs of some higher level developers and some simply refused to use Jiggy applications..

So, i started learning Objective-C, and created this little application AGAIN in objc.

Please tell me what you think of it SO FAR. Note that this application is not done yet, and im trying to make it better.

ALSO, developers!, if you could help me in my code load the data from the SystemVersion.plist file and change it that way rather than swap out the plists, i would GREATLY appreciate it! Just PM me please.

POST YOUR IDEAS, FEEDBACK, ETC!

I'm going to school now =(

Thanks,
Gojohnnyboi

nice job. Maybe you can try to integrate this into the settings app. Just a thought.

Yes looks good. But how would you deal the incompatibilities from apps & files, the needed restore to update the firmware and the relatively big amount of memory required to store the .ipsw files on your iPod.

He isnt actually changing the firmware. He is just switching the firmware version in the systemversion.plist file. It fixes compatibility issues with some apps.

Seems a little pointless. It's easy enough to just edit the file using SSH, and theres already a LOT of apps that do this... dav team is also working on one.

The kid is learning. Its just a proof of concept that he can make something useful (which it is!).

If you install this, change your firmware, then go back to your original firmware through this and then uninstall it when you connect your ipod to itunes it informs you that a new version of the iPod software is available and then you have to upgrade and lose everything..

You only have to upgrade if you want to, you don't HAVE to click on "update"

I'm too lazy to explain, so here are links!

To read/write a file in C: http://www.go4expert.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2977

Lib needed to parse xml (plist) files: http://xmlsoft.org/

Tutorial on what you want to do: http://xmlsoft.org/examples/xpath2.c

That loads the xml file, parses it, edits it, and saves it.

Hope this helps y'all!

Could there be a way to set custom version tags?

Yeah, maybe an option on the bottom that allows you to put a custom strings in for the version and build number.

Do you think that maybe after you finish, you could see if you could work with Apple Guy and make this a part of preferences? It would be pretty cool if you could just tap on your firmware version and a change thing pops up.

im trying to work it out where whichever firmware you have is checked, and then there will be a TextTableCell in the bottom to type in your custom firmware.

how could you have the made the application FAR before the DavTeam because from what i've heard and seen, your VERY young making it quite hard to make an app when your even younger than VERY young?!?!?
