Five dollars is probably going to be the most likely price tag. How can Apple expect people to purchase apps if they don't even want to spend the money to gain the ability to purchase apps? I think the whole "nominal fee" thing is stupid since iPod owners spent just as much money on their devices and having them to pay more is ridiculous. Anyways, let's continue to make bets on how much this is going to cost us. Discuss.

that is exactly what i think. the appstore is useless exept for buying apps. and buying apps isnt exactly enntertaining like games or something. so the appstore is actually a base app so it cant be any more than $7-10

Now see, your logic is flawed. Games are created for entertainment yes. But not everyone is entertained by Games or plays games. You have to remember that people use the iPhone AND iPod Touch for more than just basic media. You have to also take into effect Businesses, Social Networking, Day to Day activities.
The iPhone and iPod Touch are whole new platforms. NOT JUST FOR GAMING.
People have to really get that through their skulls. Stop thinking about games and think about the new Paradigm.

Actually, your point was that the AppStore was useless because it was only for buying Apps.... What else is is it supposed to do? Play Music?
Your opinion was that it was only to add more entertainment to the device that provides entertainment. :)

not really, your post was just sh*t.
I mean, when the appstore is available, i willbe happy to pay for any app that improves my ipods functioality. I think it will be great because there will be polished apps. Will apple tell us before they release 2.0? or will they spring it on us like 1.1.4?
well if the appstore is the only thing that we need to pay for in 2.0 then ill be more than happy to upgrade to it since i have no plans on getting the appstore since online apple store has no power in mexico... meaning that here i cant even get podcasts directly with itunes..... or buy music.... so why would i wat to pay for it... anyways.... i think that the app store should be very cheap since its only the app that stays in the middle between you and the other apps (which u have to pay for anyways) so it shouldnt go over 10-15 bucks.....

But that could be an actual App, I'm not sure.

no because they didnt want to 'release' some of the forthcoming apps, they just put a couple of web ones for example purpouses only. trust me thats why otherwise i really really doubt if they put webapps there.

obviously your gonna pay for the appstore app and for all apps that yu download
apple isnt just gonna have yu buy a 10 app to download 1000's of apps for free
what will that do to developers? it will say hard work for nothing. developers will demand money from apple. apples not gonna give it to them. they're gonna say who ever buys your app yu get 50%?
thats how i see it

Don't Lie, everyone knows apple is not a software company. They're a hardware company. They lock you in with the hardware and then charge you for updates. Also, I really doubt they will charge $20 for the appstore update. I think thats ridiculous, its a better plan to give it out for free getting more exposure

My idea/theory is that the appstore will be different than the itunes store itself, therefore you will need to buy an appstore gift card rather than a itunes gift card, and all current ipod touch owners will recieve like a 3 free app pass and all new ipods/iphones will come with a 3 free app pass. Just a thought.

So Mac OS X Leopard is not software? Aperature is not software? Final Cut Pro is not software? Safari is no software? Apple Remote Desktop is not software? The iPhone OS is not software? Widgets are not software? Quicktime is not software?
In case you're not following: ALL THAT SOFTWARE MENTIONED ABOVE IS MADE BY APPLE INC.
Does Apple make the ATI and NVIDIA Graphics Cards?
Does Apple make the INTEL Processors?

Not to mention it would make it harder to buy apps. People already have iTunes accounts, and iTunes credit. They don't want to sign up for more bullshit in order to download software.
Plus, we already know that we'll be able to buy apps from our desktop via the iTunes Store.

I Think That The App Store Is Going To Be Free.
What Isn't Going To Be Free Are The Enterprise Features
Think About It
Are They Gonna Force Everybody To Pay For Enterprise Features They Might Not Even Use?
It's Common Sense Really
They Said They Wanted To Put Apps In Everybody's Pockets
So I See No Way They Would Charge For The App Store
Just The Applications And Enterprise Features

i think it'll cost twenty cause think about it they had to rewrite all of the coding they did from the previous apps so they had to remake all of the apps that they had before even though it wont be that hard cause they have basically already did it they just have to edit it

With no inside knowledge at all, I was assuming that the price would be around $20, as was the January update. For this, I would expect a large proportion of the webapps would be made available to download for offline use for free, and then you would have to pay for new apps at carying prices.
I'd be happy to pay $20 for that, and don't see why they would need to charge additional fees for making longstanding webapps such as bejeweled etc. available to play offline?

There may be Cocoa-Touch versions of apps that were previously webapps. But since they've been rewritten and enhanced to take advantage of all of the iPhone's technologies, it would be perfectly acceptable for developers to charge for them if they want. If you don't want to pay, then you're stuck with the web app, which only works when you're online.

the main reason i want 2.0 is so i can use my university network on my touch, which is WEP enterpirse and am more than willing to pay $20 for that.
but i think that there is going to be two updates, one that updates us all to the new code and adds the app store, and another that allows these enterprise features that you pay for.
that is the ONLY logical way of doing it. giving us a free selection of 1 or 2 apple made apps for the pice would be cool too. Maybe iChat?

The January Software Upgrade was 20 and that was only 5 apps. The Appstore will have hundreds of apps some for free. But I guess that since you have to pay for each app it THE STORE might cost less.

i totally agree
HA the only reason (i think it the only reason) why WE (ipod touch user) have to pay 20 for the jan update is becuse the iphone already have them. and the ipod user never have them. (well the first quarter gens)
now to apply that little statement to this one.
no device OWN the app. not the ipod nor the iphone. thus this app will be free for all of us.
if we do have to pay for it. (which i know they wont) i can wait a few weks for it to be free for us.

The price is not for the firmware. It's for the AppStore. And most likely it won't be 20 dollars. Like how it was with the January App Pack. 5 Bucks for each App in a way.
