The pre-WWDC Apple rumor mill has finally churned out something that doesn't have the words "3G" and "iPhone" involved -- sources have told both Ars Technica and our friends at TUAW that Steve will also use his keynote to introduce the next major version of OS X, codenamed "Snow Leopard." As the deriviative release name indicates, there aren't many changes in store from 10.5 Leopard -- Apple's said to instead be focusing on tightening up speed and stability as it starts producing more mobile devices. What's more, this could be the end of PowerPC and Universal support in OS X -- Snow Leopard is said to be Intel-only. That's bound to ruffle a few feathers, but things could get even more heated if Carbon is deprecated as it also being rumored. We'll see when we see -- Monday can't get here fast enough.
So guys, at the WWDC not just things like the 3G iPhone and Firmware 2.0 might come out! Steve might have a little trick up his sleeve...;)

It's obvious it's fake. Apple wouldn't jump to 10.6 so early.
I'm surprised that other sites are actually falling for it :)

Agreed. It's been less than 12 months since Leopard has been released.
Seems very fishy to me.

Well, they say it is just to make it faster and to smoothen things out. Like firmware 1.1.4 in response to 1.1.3.

1.1.4 was Free.
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard was $150.
I doubt they would do that :)

Maybe they'll demo 10.6 and show a new feature or two, but they would NEVER release it a year after Leopard. Especially if there are no new features....

They wouldn't call it Snow Leopard either. LOL.

I think OSX 11 will be Lion.
This is all GrooveMachine's fault. :p
He found something about 10.6 in (I think) 10.5.3.

ive seen this flashed about a few websites, Snow Leopard seems to be the name there all using so its either its actual name, or it is a fake.
and youve said that it is too soon since Leopards launch if you look at the history of OSX youll see:-
10.0 - March 2001
10.1 - Sept 2001 (free upgrade for those using 10.0
10.2 - August 2002
10.3 - October 2003
10.4 - April 2005
10.5 - Nov 2007
it wouldnt be unusual for apple to release 10.6 after a year and a few months looking at the gaps between 10.0 - .3.
Tho so far it seems that the rumors about this update is that its going to focus more on speed and performance instead of new features. That doesn't sound really worthy of a major release and more of a patch for 10.5 and there's conflicting rumors about weather it will support power PC or not. Theres really not alot of info available about this yet, spose well find out tomorrow. IF there going to announce 10.6 im sure they'd do it tomorrow rather than another event.

meh...for such minor upgrades they would just release a larger upgrade like 10.5.4 not a 10.6
and im pretty sure the name for 10.6 will be cougar by the way....
They could do it as the 'one last thing'. Steve could say something like 'We've focused today on the iPhone, with the great new technologies in 2.0 and the groundbreaking new 3G iPhone. But we havn't looked at Mac OS X...' and then go on to introduce 10.6. I doubt he would give us a demo, but maybe reveal the name and a possible release date, just to get us all excited again. When did they announce 10.5 would be Leopard? Was that at a conference?

Snow Leopard could be the OS on the RUMORED Mac Fusion, since it sounds like an expansion pack, per say.
