would it be possible to take the 1.0.2 firmware of the iphone and adapt it to the ipod touch and install it on the ipod touch considering iphone users have been able to revert back to 1.0.2 and have an unlocked phone?

dont think so ... i dont think itunes would allow you to use iphone firm on ipod...or probably the ipod would reject it anyway...

Someone got iphone firmware 1.1.1 on the ipod touch. Someone tried to downgrade to 1.0.2 someone bricked.

I wont mention who someone is unless they want to be mentioned

Holy shit...

Just had *another* flash of insight... ahh, me.

--->Get iPhone Frameware onto the iPod Touch, Hypothetically<---
1) Download latest (or not) iPhone Frameware Done
2) Download latest (or not) iPod Touch Frameware Done
3) Unzip both, examine Doing/Done
4) Take iPhone DMG(s) and move to iPod Touch frameware folder
5) Modify the .plist file
6) Rezip and turn into .ipsw file
7) Boot iPod Touch into recovery mode, option-click restore, load your new, modified frameware
8) Jailbreak, pimp out, and skin your iPod Touch/iPhone

When I have time, I'll work on it.

seems like it might work. the only problem i can see is the iphone dmg most assuredly has a different passkey than the ipod touch's, in which case itll probably give you an error to that effect. other than that, good luck and hope this doesnt brick your touch!

I don't think it'll work..one mistake and all the money you spent on your itouch may as well as have gone down the drain.:(

I tried this the day I got my Touch, didn't work. iTunes would just keep downloading a new copy. Even when named appropriately. I'm guessing there is checksum it gets... Where does the password for the DMG files come from?

As far as I can tell, the password is deep in the Touch, most likely written to a chip.

Hollip3020: You're right. Perhaps we have to mount the iPhone DMG with the password (instructions at http://www.hacktheiphone.com/74/iphone_mounting_firmware_mac_74.html) and then reimage it with a different password... that password being the iPod Touch password. Perhaps reimaging it with no password would work?

just tried running apptap installer and it did everything rignt, apart from booting ipod touch into recovery mode..... how do u do that???, cos if i can physically do that when the cmd line says attempting to boot iphone (which it recognises my iTouch ans an iPhone :D) into recovery mode, then the process can continue.

thanks
