Hey,

I will be receiving my Touch tomorrow - extremely excited! Anyways I was wondering... We all know the Touch only has 8 or 16gb of space - a big downgrade of older the 30gb video iPod. Anyways, sure the touch comes with youtube, but does it also have a divx or flash plugin (or can i install the plugin's)? Being able to stream video's which I can upload to a server would lower the hard drive space used. Sure I can only watch the video's in a hot-spot which is a downfall but being able to watch streaming videos on the bus, at school, in Starbucks or at home would be very cool. What ways are there to stream video files?

Nope, it doesnt have flash or divx. And you cant download them. So you cant stream vids. from most sites. but there are a few that work on the ipod

You can stream both audio and video from your mac to your ipod touch or iphone with this

http://code.google.com/p/telekinesis/

You just have to forward two ports on your router but it works very well.

I installed Telekinesis on my MacBook, but I'm only able to play streaming mp3's. Unfortunatly, the mp4 movies that I load in my touch from iTunes can't be open by stream. I keep getting that crossed play icon that indicates unsupported format.

I created a directory on my server and uploaded a bunch of videos to it because I wanted a way to have extra storage space for videos for viewing on the Touch (when connected to wifi of course) that I could host and manage myself.

It only works if you export them from quicktime (or video converter of your choice) in the exact correct format. I experimented with different settings and none of them would play on the Touch, though they would play when I loaded them in Safari on my computer. Then I searched for the settings for exporting videos for the iphone for quicktime streaming and found a website that posted instructions for exporting the correct way:

http://www.contentdeveloper.com/mt/archives/2007/08/is_the_iphone_f_1.html

About 2/3 down the page there is a screenshot of quicktime settings that work. I copied these settings as closely as possible and uploaded a video and finally it played on my Touch!

I only have experience with exporting via quicktime, although I think that as long as you export the video in a format that the Touch version of Safari supports, it would work...though that format seems to be extremely specific from my experience with trying different export settings.

the problem i had with orb, was that i got a message on my iPod touch that said "iphone cannot stream. it can only stream .m4v and some .mp4" or something to that effect (i didn't write it down or anything). Funny how it thought i was using an iphone. I also had to open up a lot of ports on windows firewall to even get orb to work. I don't have any m4v movies and haven't created any to test. Anyone else have this problem?

i go to my mp4 vids under itunes and tap on them and it brings up a screen thats shows the path and the name and a icon that looks like old fashin movie reel.... also there is a place for you to choose a rating but i cant get it to play as i said.... anyone know whats causing this?

you need to adjust your speed settings

change your downlink speed to 128 or something..

then your uplink, measure and save.
