I'm going to designate this the official "What will you do when 2.0 is Released" thread as to cut down on them once the firmware is released. Please do not make any other topics. I will attempt to merge the existing threads into this one, and if I miss one please let me know.

How many of you are going to upgrade to 2.0 or restore for 2.0? Mainly this is a question for ipod touch owners...but I guess iphone owners could join in also :p

Yes for me. Some of the apps that exist right now often crash and/or are not finished, which is sometimes annoying... So im switching to 2.0 to go "clean."

BUT! as soon as it jailbrokenable.....(made that word myself :p), im jailbreaking it, no doubt!

I have an iphone so I am going to download it, se if you can do the 2.0 itunes activation hack with itunes 7.7, then if you can restore my iphone to 2.0 do the hack and wait for the iphone dev team to guid me to a jailbreak :)

I'm pretty sure that if you just wait, we will soon be able to jailbreak the 2.0, that is if you want to do so. I personally want the App Store, but I don't really want to risk losing the 1.1.4. applications that I jailbroken or paying $9.95 for it. I will just do fine with 1.1.4 until 2.0 is broken, just like the others.

ya i agree, but ive been on plain 1.1.4 for a month so im getting used to nothing on my ipod then once 2.0 comes out, il be good with all the upgrades:):)

I think I'll take it slow, stay on 1.1.4 for a bit, wait for a stable torrent and for Installer and SMBPrefs to be ported to 2.0, you know just the laid back approach ;)

After months of jailbreaking and restoring and jailbreaking I finally just said "the hell with it" and went with ol' normal 1.1.4. And you know what? I like it very much. I do hope somewhere down the line Apple lets us customize the springboard. I can't wait.

I have an iPodTouch 1.1.4 JB and iPhone 1.1.4 JB/unlock and using local SIM card. Probably I'm gonna wait till JB 1.2.0 is released by DevTeam since I don't wanna shift to another mobile phone.

I am staying with jailbreaking. I hate proprietary locked down devices and look forward to seeing what the jailbreaking team comes up with, NOTHING on 2.0 and the app store right now seems appealing to me, all I want is to be able to view high resolution photos so I can read my comics without the hassle of Jcomic and the ftp them blah blah blah, and I presently see NO application on the store that can do it.

sorry i'm sure the answer is here somewhere, but if i buy the 2.0 firmware will i get the iphone apps as well? pessimistically hopeful. :-/

Ummm.... the iPhone 2.0 firmware has been on Apple's servers for about 6 hours now...

I'm waiting and waiting but, yes, I am going to 2.0

i dont really know... if it is possible to jailbreak it and, and apple doesnt charge $20 for it... and i back up my 1.1.4 modifications via SSH.. then i guess i will. but it still wont offer much over 11.4. maybe there will be an upgrade over installer.app that lets you upgrade w/o losing all mods?

Nah...Why go to 2.0? I know it is good and all and has more apps but i would rather wait for something better. I am content with my currently jailbroken ipod and i will stay that way. All of the things on 2.0 will probably become available for free on a 2.0 jailbreak anyways....

No jailbreaking again for me... the only reason I did it is to get 3rd party apps, and now that I can get them legit there is no reason for my to jailbreak. I never really used custom icons, just custom background.

I'm not getting 2.0 until it's jailbroken, i believe in the community. These apps are expensive and I've seen non that impresses me enough to justify upgrading yet. My ipod is working quite fine, and i like being able to customise it.

The dock is back to boring cheese board, I think the WiFi seems to have less range then before (I need to get alot closer to routers then I used to), not a great deal else seems that different but I do love the pinball game ZEN Pinball but haven't had time to try much else.

I found a way to get the 2.0 update free for the ipod touch. not sure why but i did this and somehow it updated to 2.0 for free.

ill make a vid tutorial soon on youtube, maybe tomorrow, but the title will be "free ipod touch 2.0 update"

all i did was try to update with an old beta of 2.0, when it was done, the pink recovery screen came up and on itunes it said that it was out of date, so i put the ipod into recovery mode and hit restore, and a screen came up saying, restore and update, so i hit it, and it downloaded the 2.0 software and it installed it for me....!!!yay and they didn't charge me at all

Yeah, exactly, all the good applications in the appstore (Labyrinth, TTR, Sketches etc.) you can already get with jailbreaking so why bother.

Like I said earlier, I am upgrading at this very moment. I do think that I will get apps that I like as soon as they come out, because it appears that when most of them come out, they are free, and then they put a price on them, and slowly raise the price. I will certainly jailbreak it when the jailbreak is available though, there's just something nice about being able to jailbreak it and getting an app for free that costs 5 dollars on the App store, like the pocket keyboard and such.

I'm just gonna wait a little bit...there are a lot of apps that I use on a daily basis that aren't out yet for 2.0 (like VnSea or Pocket Touch). But I really need the Cisco VPN thing to use our campus internet....so I'm kinda stuck in the middle. Hope jailbreak comes out soon!

Well I'm an idiot. Am a bit oblivious to all the jail breaking and versions of firmware etc (bought my iTouch already jail broken from Ebay!), and just happily clicked upgrade through itunes so I could download all these lovely new apps. I know it is so obvious (well it is now) that this upgrade to 2.0 will overwrite all the jailbroken loveliness my ipod enjoyed but I was well upset when the realisation hit me.... No i-coptor, no icomic book reader (which I was buzzing about getting working - finally- about 1 week ago), no Solitaire, no summerboard themes and most importantly for me, no text reader (can't remember the App's actual name). I was using this to keep up to date with all my finances (the many outgoings and so few incomings etc) and also as a virtual brain, typing in birthdays and the such. Is there any way I can retrieve these txt files? Sadly I think I already know the answer.... And I can't even connect through winSCP anymore! Lesson learned, think about what you are doing and read what's on the screen before hitting that button. Anyway, version 2.0 does seem cool. Just downloading BrainChallenge....

YAH ... I seemed to be stuck last nite -- but my account was billed for the 2.0 last nite.

This must be a bit of a dissapointment for Apple.

Gee... some of the stuff is not too strong. I used to have an Atari 800 & 64K of memory. So for our Touch I expected to see some real brain-twisters, sweat and tears! But that -- to my eyes -- is not the case for many APPS. Many are Lighweights. Sort of PDA ideas.
For example, nobody had to tell me I that my Touch was bright in a dark room!

In contrast Eppocrates is quite appropriate for the medical profession and seems to be very professional and working with reasonably large external databases.

The original Pac Man would run on about 16K-32K of Atari 800 memory. Some of the paid apps look like they underutilize the machine. Maybe the problem is that Apple wants many small apps and few big ones re storage implications.

Anybody have problems downloading 2.0 from iTunes? I tried 3 times on my wife's iPhone and 2 on my iTouch, every time I get to about 75 seconds left or 199mb it stops and says that I have a network issue and the download aborts. Talk about frustrating!!!

Am monitoring the situation. Some of the Apps I use are in both places, so no reason to upgrade. Would like to keep the functionality that other apps allow i.e. more access to the iPodTouch's utility. text edit, doc manipulation, etc. Push mail, etc. looks cool but not sure that I would upgrade just for that. Hoping a Jailbreak for 2.0 comes out soon. Kudos to all the people involved, you have done a magnificent job!

i HAD a jailbroken ipod... then it bricked twice so i switched to the legit 1.1.4 :/
i updated to 2.0 and my ipod was bricked yet again, no chance of restore this time. (error message 1604) so i went to best buy and the geek squad couldn't figure out what was wrong XD
and they sent it in and i will be getting a new 16 gig in about a week. i called apple about the 1604 problem... and they had no idea (what? our prized new $10 upgrade bricked your ipod?!) it was amusing. i suggest you be more careful if you are in my same situation.

i will... if it is free to all ipod touch users!! im hoping that apple should realize that, they should be fair between ipod touch and iphone.. because apple applications always free on iphone while we ipod touch users will be spending a dollars to enjoy those applications..

you won't loose your music, videos, photos as long as you have sync your iPod Touch.... but you will loose all the apps that you've downloaded in a jailbroken Touch... HTH

however my ipod touch i'll keep it to 1.1.4 ..
found that some of the cool apps in 1.1.4 JB are also available in 2.0
but ofcoarse in 2.0 you have to pay!...

The apps on 1.1.4 are too useful to warrant an upgrade.

Stuff like mxtube, photoboard etc i love them too much. Firmware 2.0 is for gamers it seems. I don't care much for the games

Yea what an ass for following the thread that a mod suggested. Anyways, I usually hate to see people bumping old threads too, but it's because they are usually dead for a reason. On the contrary, this is the perfect time for this thread as shown by the 10+ pages that followed his bump.

Back OT, I'm sticking with 1.1.4 JB for the time being.

im not updateing now. im going on holiday in two days, and i'll be gone for two and a half weeks. guessing it will be fully jailbreakeable ahen i get home :)

i went with 2.0 and the only JB things i miss are themes, gpsPhone, and books. otherwise 2.0 pwns, especially the aol radio and pandora apps. and remote is fun for randomly cranking up and changing the music when someone else is using the computer :D

i upgraded to the 2.0. I really love all the new apps like aqua forest and the aol radio. the only thing that i miss from jailbreaking is the nes and snes apps. D:

i hope they find a way to have those on 2.0. my ipod would be complete then! :D

Yes, I'll admit it, I upgraded to 2, well for a day at least.
I missed my themes, apps and games back on 1.1.4 but most of all, I missed volume boost.
Although the volume issues are addressed somewhat in 2 to a degree, music still sounded rather flat.
I followed the instructions to downgrade back to 1.1.4 and went without a hitch apart from receiving error 20 for the first few attempts then put it into DMU mode, windows vista installed an apple device driver and things went smoothly after that.
Seems like there is a variation on the device drivers between the different firmwares!
I did buy a few apps from appstore and havent lost them as they sit in my itunes library and as soon as 2 is jailbroken I suppose I will upgrade again, but for now Installler Rocks, Neverball rocks, Summerboard rocks and my music sounds the DB's.

I will consider upgrading when more of the apps I use are available from the App Store. One key app is Touchpad Pro, which I paid for. Plus Mahjong, Solitaire, and the emulators are key for me...

i think i'm going to hold off mainly because of themes and like the above poster, i paid for touchpad pro and i love it too much. I'll wait for these two things to be available for 2.0 before upgrading

Just gave in and am currently attempting to restore the iPod. Taking a pretty long time though..

Upgraded to 2.0 will syncgh with PC but not iMAC - no problems previously with 1.0 on either platform

I had updated but then i got stuck in a BIG BIGBIGBIGBIGBIGHUGE!!! MESS! but thankfully just now i downgrading itunes, got my music back, my videos, and everything, and jailbroke it to. Except i lost my january software update. I guess i can just email apple or just install it for free via installer.

i was on a jailbroken 1.1.3 last night, saw the 2.0 jailbreak was released, "purchased" the 2.0 ipsw and pwnd without a restore. works great, no problems thus far. still waiting for cydia to allow us to add sources or for the next 2.0 compatible version of installer to come out.

i updated to 2.0 this afternoon so now i'm running a jailbroken 2.0 with cydia. quite pleasingly, it kept my custom carrier name that i set using Make It Mine :D

I said I wasn't mainly cos of the books app and the touchpad pro and the lack of customisation.

The ebook reader is a fine substitute which although can't add the books I already have they have said this bwill be sorted by the end of the month.
Mocha works as well as Touchpad (esp if you use remote too) and when the pro version of Mocha comes out it will be perfect.
I do miss customising the thing though, hate the fact it looks so damn ordinary.

On a side note someone is selling classic ebooks like tarzan and little women, these books are free on the ebook.com site and can be downloaded easily to the ipod without spending a penny once you sign up.

First I'm gonna update and have a play around with it then I'm going to go straight to jailbreaking for more fun

I think I'm going to upgrade from 1.1.4 JB'd to 2.0.0 and JB it tomorrow and I had a few questions. is there customize and/or SMB on Cydia? should I just wait and get Installer when it comes out? I hear it's coming out soon but how soon? and is ZiPhone going to release that when it comes out?

I bought the 2.0 update and even a few games... But with 2.0 being so unreliable and buggy... I am going back to 1.1.4 until 2.0 gets fixed :|

Has anybody found a microphone that is supported by firmware 2.0?

I haven't updated from 1.1.4 yet.
I might when more apps become available for 2.0 on Cydia.
I use WAY more apps on 1.1.4 than I would on 2.0 so far.
Besides I'd lose the ability to customize my springboard.

I haven't upgraded to 2.0 and probably will not until I see more apps being converted to 2.0 framework. I really don't like the idea of having IM clients close when you press the home button, and the bug issues they are having right now. My 1.1.4 is awesome and does so much for free that it seems silly to pay for things that are buggy. I know I will update eventually, but not until there are more useful apps.

I know you can jailbreak but i cba with the hassle and i was wondering if i brought coud i do everything i can with a kailbreak?

I Jailbroke the little SOB, and while I'm pretty upset that I lost all my cool free stuff (1.1.4 Rocks), I do have to say I love the fact that 2.0 allows me to connect to my works corporate wireless network. 1.1.4 didn't allow this to happen, so I couldn't do any updates, etc while at work (I know i should have been working anyways). I'm also like the whole mail push thing. 1.1.4 wasn't compatible with my Outlook Exchange, but 2.0 is. It's nice to be able to check email outside the office without having to log onto exchange via IE.

Just my 2 cent for what it's worth. If you don't need those two things above, then by all means stay with 1.1.4...TRUST ME!

Well FW 2.0 has free application too. I'm just waiting for installer 4.0 to come on board :)

I'm still kicking 1.1.4. I wanna upgrade, but it's hard to part with some of these older Apps. Sketches expired for me and I can't run the beta version on 1.1.4 anymore. That sucks!! but overall, I'll just wait till the new Installer comes along. Not to sound cheap... but free apps do help when I have bills and other huge payments in REAL LIFE.. I have to make.. why clutter my credit card bill up with apps I might buy and not like.

I think donating is the way to go. If you like it.. you'll pass the buck.

I would recomend the upgrade. this is mainly because I've had my jailbroken iPod for like 7 months, I've crashed it and restored it 4 times and to me, my iPod always working is worth spending $11.97 in the app store vs getting my programs from installer. but if your iPod never crashes and you like it the way it is on 1.1.x then I would sugjest you keep it that way.

i'm still with the 1.1.5 and probably don't have the plan yet to upgrade to 2.0 ( or up )...
i don't want to give up all the applications i have right now especially the Wikipedia and Wedict applications.
they are indeed very useful for me right now...

but as soon as all my existing apps can be retrieve from 2.0 (or up), then i might update...
