If science could magically made your dream gizmo in one day, what would it/they be?
1. A Lucid Dream Inducer. I've heard stories of people creating pills that can do so. That would kick ass.
2. A Jetpack
3. A time-stopper. I'd shoplift like crazy.

They managed to teleport 'light' so it's only a matter of time before they can transport 'matter'

Uh... teleporting light is just moving it... so... they didn't really do anything. Teleporting matter is deconstructing it, sending the info of it as light, and reconstructing it at the other end...

A step in the right path nonetheless, no?

this is definitely the more accurate statement...i don't really understand why there isn't more work being done on this. FedEx, UPS, USPS should all fund this...imagine the days of one HOUR shipping. going away to school? teleport all your stuff there before you even arrive...planes no longer have to carry 1000s of pounds of luggage. less fuel is needed.

My point was that, teleporting light is impossible. Because the fastest speed anything will go is the velocity of light. Probably.

Have you heard about the experiment that was a sucess for time travel, what they did was have a circular mirror with a laserbeam 10x hotter than anything thats used to cut diamond, the laser shot up a particle and they've sucessfully retrived that particle. It's only capable under extreme circumstances. I forget who did the experiment but i believe its some sort of american university.
1 - a low cost, but high technology robot, that can walk aimlessly around the house, that would be awesome ^_^

I dont believe there was any specific definition of how you HAVE to achieve teleportation. sure it could be deconstructing the object and sending it as light, like you described, but it could also be like the current experimental method of "cloning" the atoms in an object with "blank atoms" on the other side of the teleporter and then writing all of the object's information to those atoms, basically cloning the object. then the other objects molecules would be destroyed.
or it could simply be using a type of wormhole to send an object instantly to another point in space by temporarily bending space to allow those points to meet. that there is my favorite scifi method. (think of it like string: youre on one end, you want to get to the other. instead of traveling from one end to the other, you bend the strign into a loop so the ends touch, then just walk across)

So this is how understand your idea of the clone teleport: they scan you, send the data into africa (or any other place of the world) in africa they clone you and then they kil you .Right?

I'd like to prevent ageing. I understand the problems of having people live really long due to overcrowding and not enough resources etc, but I don't care. I don't want to die, not out of fear but because I want to see all the amazing stuff to come.
Faster Than Light travel. Let's explore the universe!
A virtual world as 100% realistic as the Matrix, but without the giant plug into the back of the head.
Jurassic Park.
Cheap, fully working holographic technology to the extent that our TV's and the internet can display things in 3D space around us. If anything, it would give a total new meaning to downloading porn :p
