My Aunt recently bought a iPhone 3G and is offering me her old iPhone for $150. I'm considering buying it and basically using it as a Touch with speakers and a camera as I have Verizon as my service. Now would I need to use a SIM card at all to unlock and use the phone? I don't have any SIM cards at my disposal and would like to know if I need one so I can ask my Aunt to borrow her card so I can unlock it.

You can unlock and jailbreak it without a SIM card inserted and use it as a 'touch with speakers' but why don't you just use your verizon SIM card once unlcoked??? Once you unlock it you can just use any SIM (apart from maybe 3...not sure)
that's what i'm doing. works fine...

Maybe if I had a memory of such a network I would...

THERE IS NO 3 MOBILE NETWORK HERE!
I thought maybe it was a network - wasn't sure though...
When in doubt - ask around.

Verizon doesn't use SIM cards and aren't on a GSM network. But good to know that I don't need to use one, I'll have to call up my Aunt again:)

Just use WinPwn, and check off the "Activate" box.
Then you have have an iTouch with speakers and a camera :)
