I'm looking at purchasing an iPhone 3G off of eBay but I have a few questions that I hope I could have multiple responses for so I could see various opinions. First, do you think a software will be made to unlock the iPhone 3G? The last thing I would want to do is buy an iPhone and not be able to use it. Secondly, do you think it will be soon and if not how long do you think it will be? Are there any substantial risks to unlocking?

Dev team is busy working away at a 3G unlock. It's tough to guess when if ever it will happen. If and when it does, don't think there are drawbacks to unlocking. Know a few guys with 1st Gen unlocked phones, no issues.
