If you want a free online one, try House Call by Trend Micro. It runs right in your browser.
As for software, I recommend AVG.

Uh, I don't think any browser style AV would be good, same to the free ones. But what I recommand is Nod32 from Eset. It's a bit expansive, but trust me, it works.

That's what I thought, but House Call isn't really even that bad. :o
And Nod32 = good also, if you have it.

AVG free deinatley, only use Nod32 on older systems that need a very lightweight anti-virus.

Nah, Bitdefender 2008 or 2009 is the way to go. It was the best AV program of 2008 and cracks are easily available if you want it free :D
thanks for all the answers guys...im trying out AVG free....but reallly dont wanna uninstall my other antivirus program =/....is it really that safe?

You'll be alright in the time it takes to uninstall one and reinstall another. I didn't have an antivirus program for 2 weeks once and only got one piece of adware.

Trend Micro will give you a free 30 day trial for their home antivirus. I bought it, it's quite good.

In my experience, AVG isn't that great. Hogs memory and gives far too many false virus accusations

Yeah, if you want a good antivirus, either get Eset Smart Security or Bitdefender Internet Security.
Eset for more memory saving goodness and Bitdefender for all round good security
