When I download songs belonging to the same singer/group, it will show up under separate albums due to the year of the song. Is there a way just to put all songs belonging to same singer/group under just one album cover (even though this may not be correct)

Also, what is the "compilation" checkbox for in the "info tab" of the song?

OK make sure they are the same album.

And make sure that all the years are the same.

To do this... You click EDIT-> SELECT ALL -> right click highlighted songs -> get info -> and edit all the info of all songs

Use COMPILATION for albums that have contributions from multiple artists. Instead of iTunes thinking you have 12 albums from 12 different artists that all happen to have the same album name, it groups them as one collection with "Various Artists" as the album artist. (The individual tracks still show their individual artists.)
