I don't really care too much if my iPod is jailbroken. Albeit, I like it to be jailbroken, but it isn't a big deal for me if I have to stay on an official firmware. I'll be getting the 3G ASAP if it has a 64 GB model and a camera. Those are the main deciding factors for me, not jailbreakability.

I'm fairly certain the 3G will be hacked almost immediately.

I'm just thinking about what all they have had time to patch. They have had since what? February when 24kpwn-lite was first released. I'm quite sure that with 3.1, iTunes will call home to validate an ipsw and I'm quite sure that they will disallow the ability to just write custom IMG3s to NOR. I'm also pretty sure that they will strip out the functionality that allows the device to boot pre-decrypted IMG3s because without that... things may get dicey. I'm not really allowed to talk about that one so I will shush my mouth

Most of those issues can be solved with a utility to initiate the restore for us without iTunes. I could make this myself using iRecovery but I'm sure there is more involved than just booting up the ramdisk. Apple will probably use the same iBoot certificate verification shenanigans that they did with the 3G S, lets just hope there's an iBoot exploit ready for that

All in all, I'd say this will be a more difficult task than the previous jailbreaks, as if they weren't difficult enough anyway. AND I must say that I'm going off of knowledge that is about a month or so old. I haven't talked to Chronic-dev or the iPhone dev team lately. It seems like everyone is on break, but maybe they are secretly working on things. They don't tell me everything they are up to, just bits and pieces

You can bet I'll be getting mine on day 1 and you can bet that I'll be working on the jailbreak with Chronic-dev if they're willing to work with me again. If necessary, redTool might make a resurgence. Looking forward to it!

I didn't know who you were until you mentioned redTool.

I'm looking forward to it, too. I hope you guys can get the 3G jailbroken.

i can say that you can probably count on at least a tethered jailbreak a little after release, untethered being a whole new ballgame but still possible.

It didn't even take them very long to make a teathered and then unteathered jailbreak on the 2g ipod touch. The dev team held off trying to jailbreak it because they wanted to focus on the 3g unlock. Im sure they will jailbreak the 3g iPod Touch pretty quickly.

How can you predict a jailbreak before a device comes out?
