WiFi seems disabled?!

A friend of mine bought his iPhone 3G v3.1.2 & Blackra1n, round yesterday and the WiFi is greyed out and totally not usable. I've searched repeatly around here and the net and found the fix - reset network settings. But that didn't work. Any ideas?

I've reinstalled the firmware several times and can't downgrade to v3.0 but keep getting 1015 errors. Also without JB the sim won't read

Is it still under warranty?

yeah I've heard blackra1n does that occasionally; I've had to such issues with mine (just got it yesterday). Have you tried a restore from DFU mode?
