Default Apple unlocked iphones...

Hmm.... While digging through all kinds of online info I accidentally stumbled upon apple unlocked iphones. That means your warrenty isnt void and you can upgrade without losing your unlock. All this can be found on the apple Austrailia website. It's like this because of laws there saying that a cell phone company can't impose the kinds of restrictions present in north america. You can buy a brand new iphone 3gs for A$ 945.45 which is fairly close to canadian dollars and $863.38 american. Thought you guys might be interested.

That's old news; Apple has always had factory unlocked iPhones.

The only problem I've heard is that Apple will only service iPhones from their country of origin. So, if you buy a factory unlocked iPhone from Australia you will not have a warranty here in North America.

They're unlocked somehow at the hardware level, right?

Is that why it isn't lost with a restore?

Or is it lost with a restore, and you need a special recovery file/whatever?

Or it is lost with a restore, and that's that?

Please explain the way it works...

(The permanent unlock method by Apple, I mean)

I think they are unlocked in the factory, but I'm not sure whether a restore would lose it.

The ones in New Zealand are unlocked and claimed to be the cheapest factory unlocked iPhones in the world. =/
Anyways. It does not lose the unlocked then restored or upgraded. But don't try anything dumb with it by installing blacksn0w on it cuz it will literally mess up your device xD
