iPod touch 2G Jailbreak: Redsn0w | 0wnboot Redsn0w Status: Tethered jailbreak released Semi-tethered jailbreak is also available "Dongle" from MuscleNerd also an option ![]() Is the 2G iPod touch jailbroken? iPhone Dev Team:
iPod touch 2G on any firmware When will it be released? The iPhone Dev Team have released their tethered jailbreak, but not an untethered jailbreak. Chronic Dev have released neither. It's not known when an untethered jailbreak will be released. Either team has not commented on a release date of an untethered jailbreak. Why is it taking so long? Both teams are looking for an untethered jailbreak, but a tethered jailbreak has been released by iPhone Dev Team in the meantime. What does jailbreaking do? In the simplest way I can describe it, jailbreaking allows you to modify/customize your iPod touch and also install unapproved third party applications (non App Store). Two applications, Cydia and Installer, are like the App Store but for jailbroken applications. What's "redsn0w"? Redsn0w is the codename for iPhone Dev's iPod touch 2G jailbreak. What's 0wnboot? 0wnboot is the codename for Chronic Dev's iPod touch 2G jailbreak. Will I be able to jailbreak using a PC or Mac? iPhone Dev Team:
Will I loose all my songs/videos/App Store applications after I jailbreak? Yes you'll loose all your media (like music, videos and App Store applications) because you're loading a custom firmware. NOTE: Any paid applications can always be put back on your iPod touch. You don't have to pay 2X. You can find them on your computer (Windows) here: Start > Music > iTunes > Mobile Applications Will it be easy to jailbreak my iPod touch? A tethered jailbreak is rather difficult but if either team releases an untethered jailbreak it will be very simple. When did the iPhone Dev Team announce their jailbreak? January 14th, 2009, and released their tethered jailbreak on January 30th, 2009. When did Chronic Dev announce their jailbreak? January 21st, 2009 Can you un-jailbreak? By restoring through iTunes you can completely remove the jailbreak and your 2G iPod touch will be just like new out of the box. Does jailbreaking void my warranty? Yes, it does void your warranty but with a simple restore through iTunes your warranty is in-tact again just like normal. Is jailbreaking your iPod touch illegal? No, it is fully legal despite Apple wanting you to believe the opposite. Where can I find more/catch up on the 2G jailbreak?
Yes, and the team will not be at fault. Can I ask the iPhone Dev Team for help/support with the tethered jailbreak? No, they will not help you and have labeled it as use at your own risk.
