Default libusb TUROTIAL for noobs (Vista)

Ok, so I have jailbroken my ipod touch 2g, but not without running into some problems on the way. One of them was running libusb on Vista. Searching these forums I have found many others have the same problem, yet no one really explains how to resolve this. So here is how to do it.

1) Before installing libusb, right-click on the libusb icon (it's named "libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.12.1", if you are using a GUI program for jailbreak, and don't know where this icon is, go to Start and search libusb.)
2) Go to properties.
3) In the window that pops up, click on "Compatibility" tab.
4) Put a checkmark next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
5) Select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" from the drop down list.
6) Click OK.
7) Now you can instal libusb on Vista 32, without any problems.

Note: If you already installed libusb, and now your USB ports are dead you can either navigate with your keyboard (if it's non-usb) or a touchbad (on laptops) and uninstal libusb. Your ports will work as soon as you uninstall libusb.

If you don't have a non-usb mouse/keyboard, you have to restart your computer and run Windows in Safe Mode, then immediately uninstal libusb.

After uninstalling, follow my steps listed above to instal it properly.

You HAVE to do this for Vista, otherwise your computer won't be able to detect your ipod, and you might think you bricked it.

Edit: LOL misspelled Tutorial in title.

Vista 64

THIS IS NOT TESTED.. Digging around I found this:

Quote:
Download libusb-win32-device-bin-0.1.12.1 (or latest one...)

This file contains 64bit versions of the driver and DLL
(libusb0_x64.sys, libusb0_x64.dll)

Download inf-wizard.exe it will produce a 64bit compatible .inf file
I cant try this here at work... (only have Vista64 at home)
(not to mention I cant dig around the net looking for the files)

Can anyone verify this?

For 32-Bit Vista users this works, for 64-bit Vista users, use the tutorial in my sig.

Hey guys,

just a quick question - good post about the Libusb

I tried to do the jailbreak and thought I bricked it..so I managed to restore it back to the 2.2.1 regular firmware and get all my stuff back. But I still have libusb installed..and I'm not sure if I installed it with the box "be compatible with service pack 2" checked. Either way, my ipod is being recognized.

Should I uninstall it and reinstall it again when I want to try the jailbreak? Is that safe?

Or should I just leave it and try the jailbreak again with that one later using a different tutorial/pack of files.

What do you think? Thanks dudes.

I would suggest reinstall, that's what I did and it work. If you have a USB keyboard durin the install, don't shit your pants. It will flucuate between working and not workind. When it's done continue with the jailbreaking process.
