Default [Mac] Redsn0w Tutorial [Semi-Tethered]

This is now a Mac only thread. If you are running windows please look here for a full guide.

Before you start you will need.

- Copy of the 2.1.1 Original Firmware. Which can be obtained here.

- Copy of the 2.2.1 Original Firmware. Which can be obtained here.

- Pwnage tool (For Mac)/ Pwnage tool can be obtained here.

- rslite102semi. Which can be obtained here.

Getting Started

- Create a new folder. Call it Jailbreak.

- Put all the things you downloaded into the jailbreak folder.

- Rename the IPSW files to these names.

2.1.1 firmware ipsw = original211.ipsw
2.2.1 firmware ipsw = original221.ipsw

- Open the RSLITE102SEMI folder. Go into the "semi" folder and then into the "FirmwareBundles" folder. Copy and "iPod2,1_2.2.1_5H11a.bundle" into
Mac: PwnageTool.app/Contents/Resources

- Open the RSLITE102SEMI folder. Go into the "semi" folder and then into the "CustomPackages" folder. Copy and "CydiaInstaller.bundle" into
Mac: PwnageTool.app/Contents/Resources

- Mac: Open PwnageTool. Create a custom 2.2.1 ipsw with PwnageTool in Advanced mode. Don't enable custom boot logos.

- From your custom 2.2.1 ipsw, extract these (patched) files:
iBSS.n72ap.RELEASE.dfu (name it iBSS221pwn.dfu)
iBoot.n72ap.RELEASE.img3 (name it iBoot221semi.img3)

Mac: To do this. Open terminal.app and run these commands.

Code:
 unzip custom221.ipsw Firmware/dfu/iBSS.n72ap.RELEASE.dfu

 mv Firmware/dfu/iBSS.n72ap.RELEASE.dfu iBSS221pwn.dfu

 unzip custom221.ipsw Firmware/all_flash/all_flash.n72ap.production/iBoot.n72ap.RELEASE.img3

 mv Firmware/all_flash/all_flash.n72ap.production/iBoot.n72ap.RELEASE.img3 iBoot221semi.img3

 rm -rf Firmware

- From the official 2.1.1 ipsw, extract this (unpatched) file:
iBSS.n72ap.RELEASE.dfu (name it iBSS211.dfu)

Mac: Type this into terminal.app

Code:
 unzip original211.ipsw Firmware/dfu/iBSS.n72ap.RELEASE.dfu

 mv Firmware/dfu/iBSS.n72ap.RELEASE.dfu iBSS211.dfu

 rm -rf Firmware

- Put your ipt2g into DFU mode using keypresses. Don't have iTunes running!

- Mac: Start rslite. Send the official iBSS from 2.1.1: !iBSS211.dfu

- Unplug and replug your iPod.

- Mac: Start rslite again. Send the redsn0w-lite patch: #pwn211ibss.txt

- Send the patched iBSS from 2.2.1: !iBSS221pwn.dfu

- Open iTunes to do a full restore using your custom 2.2.1 ipsw. To do this, hold shift while you press restore and then navigate to the custom221.ipsw file.

To boot into "Jailbroken Mode"

- Mac: Start rslite. Send the official iBSS from 2.1.1: !iBSS211.dfu

- Mac: Start rslite again. Send the redsn0w-lite patch: #pwn211ibss.txt

- Mac: Start rslite. Send the patched iBoot from 2.2.1: !iBoot221semi.img3
Windows: iRecovery -f iBoot221semi.img3

- Mac: Start rslite. Type this:
Code:
      setenv boot-path /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernelcaches/kernelcache.s5l8720p

      fsboot
Quote:
(After this point, ignore any ERRORs from rslite and ^C out of it)
NOTE: do not use "saveenv" after step 12! The "p" version of the kernel
is patched and won't be accepted in an untethered boot. It was put there next to
the normal "x" kernel via your custom ipsw.

Untethered boot
If you allow the iPod Touch 2G to boot on its own without
intervention, the offical unjailbroken system will boot. You won't be
able to use Cydia or ssh or anything else that relies on a pwned
kernel.

Disclaimer thingy

Please note. This is all theoretical. It SHOULD work. I am not held responsible on what you do with this tutorial and what happens to your iPod as a result of it. However DFU mode + restore would fix any problems you encounter.

Thank you.

I think I'll try it, but it looks like it may take a while. Nice and easy to use guide though.
