Thanks to the hard work of Zibree, geohot, and (maybe) the iPhoneDevTeam, a new utility called ZiPhone has been released. This supports jailbreaking/activating/unlocking iPhones and iPod touches without being on 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 first (a "true" jailbreak).

For those of you who don't love the commandline, I will soon release iJailBreak 0.5 as a simple frontend to ZiPhone.

So the official dev jailbreak is another bad one? As long as SDK apps work after using the official dev jailbreak, I'm fine.

official dev jailbreak has never been released
they simply released a soft upgrade for developers to get started on making apps
turns out everyone wanted to try it
thats y there are so many bugs
this isnt officially a jailbreak
your ipod is still on firmware 1.1.2
just your software was upgraded

Tried on my iTouch 1.1.3 with january soft upgrade:

- OS X 10.5.1 x86 on MacBook, iTunes 7.6 = Bus Error
- OS X 10.4.10 PPC on PowerBook, iTunes 7.4.2 = Segmentation fault
- Windows XP SP 2 (under VMWare Fusion) = apple logo forever after restart, need to restore

With this jailbreak you can be on 1.1.3 im pretty sure.
