- All applications from previous firmwares must be ported to 2.0.
- A bit pricy.

2.0.1

What did it do over 2.0?
- Bug Fixes. Far more stable than 2.0.

How do you jailbreak?
Pwnage Tool, winpwn, QuickPwn.

PROS
- Bug Fixes make it a much more valuable version of 2.0.

CONS

2.0.2

What did it do over 2.0.1?
- Yet more bug fixes and stability fixes.

How do you jailbreak?
Pwnage Tool, Winpwn, QuickPwn.

PROS
- Yet more bug fixes make it an even better 2.0.

CONS
- Still quite buggy. Random reboots and lag are not appreciated.
- All applications from previous firmwares (1.1.x) must be ported to 2.0.

2.1

What did it do over 2.0.2?
Firmware 2.1 added a bunch of new bug fixes and was released alongside the new iPod touch, although it was not on the new device. Genius playlists, epic bug fixes, and better display information were just some of the new features.

PROS
- Far less buggy
- Shorter Backup time
- Genius
- Added Music display

CONS
- Still a bit buggy.
- Applications from previous firmwares (1.1.x) do not work.

2.2

What did it do over 2.1?
Firmware 2.1 added a bunch of new bug fixes, huge speed improvements, and retooling of a few portions of specific applications.

How do you Jailbreak?
Pwnage Tool, QuickPwn.

- Far less buggy
- Very stable

- Podcast downloading in iTunes

- Applications from previous firmwares (1.1.x) do not work.
- I don't know about you, but I got some random reboots.

2.2.1

This update included various bug fixes.

PROS
- Far less buggy
- Shorter Backup times.

CONS

- Still a bit buggy.

  • In-App Purchases
CONS
  • Still a bit buggy.
  • Some extensions not supported

4.0

The next major firmware version of the iOS firmware came with a name change and abandoned earlier devices such as the original iPhone and iPod touch. Likewise, some features, like multitasking, were unsupported for second generation devices like the iPhone 3G and the iPod touch 2G.

PROS
  • Change Wallpaper
  • FaceTime video calls (on iPhone 4 only)
  • Multitasking
  • Retooled Mail application
  • Folders
  • Use iMovie and iBooks
  • View Photos by Albums, People, and Places.
  • Thousands of other new features...

CONS
  • Doesn't support some devices at all
  • Only partially supports older devices
  • Many features hinge on the use of a new iPhone 4.

Please remember that the newest firmware will have advancements that save battery, fix bugs, and make your iPod run faster. In addition, developers will update their applications for the newer firmwares, making your iPod unable to run some of them.

I took a look at it and added that 1.1.3/1.1.4 was faster. Was there anything else but that, that I completely missed?

iPhone 3G (White) 16GB
3.0 jailbroken
Yes, but not from the video.
Re: 1.1.2 > 1.1.3 area:
1) SpringBoard not "rewritten", just theme'd differently, and run as different user.
2) There is no new "file system", we're still using the same HFS based file system.
3) Due to the fact that spring board runs as "mobile" instead of "root", a lot of older apps "doesn't work" due to permission issues and path issues, this is easily corrected if you know what you're doing.
4) iPhone apps had always made sound, even on 1.1.1. You just needed to have the sound and the frameworks loaded properly... most repo based installation process should've done them automatically for you.

The "various bug fix" should be removed unless you can list what was fixed.

1.1.2's "cannot do web app creation" is VERY wrong. You can use 1.1 for web apps already; webapps are just webpages, and can even be used on a computer if you have the proper css libraries. If you are intending to comment on "web clips" you should use the correct terminology.

Pre 1.1.2: CPU Clock speed software limited to 400mhz
1.1.2: CPU Clock speed software limited to 412mhz
1.1.3+: I don't know, I didn't check nor do I intend to do so.

1. I have fallen for a common misperception.
2. I'm talking about the organization of folders, but I'll update that to clarify.
3. I'll add that.
4. Changed.
5. Okay.
6. Clarified to Web Clips. Sorry for any confusion.
7. I thought I added that. Hmm... Will add.
