Post [HOW TO] Configure Quasi Low-Jack

Configure Quasi Low-Jack for iPod touch or iPhone

UNFORTUNATELY, this tool does not work for everyone due to location and the network to which you are connected. I'm sorry, but it isn't perfect. A GPS would be great...

*This works on the iPod Touch. I've gotten mixed reports on firmware compatibility. I can confirm 1.1.2 works.

**If you have no idea what this is, here is the description found in Installer:
Quote:
UPDATE to 2.1 for this to work! Reports location to twitter every 30sec when phone is on. Developed by Erica Sadun. Use more info for more...
DISCLAIMER: It is highly recommended that you create a new Twitter account, setting updates to "private." Unless you want the world to know where you device (and most likely you) are.

Prerequisites:
Jailbroken iPhone/iPod touch
BSD Subsystem
SSH capability
Twitter account

1. Add Shai's source in Installer <ride4.org/shai.xml>

2. After refreshing, navigate (in Installer) to Utilities, where you will find Quasi Low-Jack. Install it.

3. Read the pop-up notices on the screen during the installation process.
(a.) *It says to restart your device. I cannot confirm whether this means to restart after installation or after configuration. I have restarted once after installation and it has worked. (Post your findings)

4. SSH into device. Navigate to /bin/tweet. Edit it. It should read this:
Code:
/bin/pingwifi; sleep 10
#! /bin/sh
curl --basic --user Username:Password \
  --data status="`/bin/findme`" http://twitter.com/statuses/update.xml
*Replace "Username" and "Password" with your Twitter username and password.

5. Save.

6. Login to your twitter account, and you should see your latest update. Click the link to Google Maps where it will pull up your geographic coordinates. (The URL is http://twitter.com/home)

CUSTOMIZATION: The default update is every 30 seconds. You can change that by editing the com.sadun.tweet.plist in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons.

****This only works when device is turned ON.

*IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS...

Quote:
With WinSCP, or equivalent, navigate to /System/Library/LaunchDaemons. Here you will see a whole bunch of .plist files. Now open and edit com.sadun.tweet.plist.

* Change the start interval, according to your needs. 86400 is once a day (60 seconds * 60 minute * 24 hours). Right now, I have mine running every ten minutes (600) because I needed to check that the LaunchDaemon was functioning properly. (it is rumored that a interval of less than 120 (1 minute) will not work)
If you have Cydia, you must install the cURL package for this to work.
(thanks bard1290)

Please do not hesitate to ask questions!!

It works like a charm on the iPod touch. My latitude/longitude coordinates are accurate within just over 100 feet.

haha same

It's not working for me though, I did input my twitter account info and did reboot my touch. 16gb 1.1.2. Yes, I have BSD installed. When I run tweet, it says /bin/tweet: line 3: curl: command not found

EDIT: I have Cydia pkgmgr installed, install cURL extension from Cydia. Works now. Thanks!

EDIT 2: It wasn't too accurate for me, about 50 miles away from my actual location. I'm guessing it's from the wifi locator trying to figure out your location and that I didn't have the best networks. No worries, cool app nonetheless.

No. This isn't even an application, its just something running in the background. It uploads your devices location to twitter.com and there is a link to pull it up in Google Maps (web; so use a computer.) NOT the iPhone maps application. Its fully automatic, and you can change the time interval.

@in/flux

50 miles? Wow, that's a stark constrast to my 100-300ft. Glad to hear you got it working though.

i wish there was an app where it found your location on maps.app on 1.1.1 or 1.1.2.
1.1.3 sucks right now due to high failure rate and apps not working..
