Play Nethack on the iPod/iPhone

Nethack on the iPod/iPhone:

(I had some problems with it after i installed Cydia, so i had to reset my iPod, use all of this on your own danger!)

I used:
On the device - FTP-client (Pure-FTPd + the fitting Bossprefs are recommended)
- Terminal Version 207 (Source: iphone.lenlolabs.com)
- BSD Subsystem 2.x (Fix for getting root access)
- MobileFinder
You will also need
- A Pc
- WLAN
- An FTP client

How to:
Go to
Binaries for the iPhone
Download the package in the first link to your desktop and unpack it
Use a FTP client of your choice to connect to your iPod/iPhone (I useed Filezilla; host is the iPod/iPhones IP, password is eithe "alpine" or "dottie")
Move the files to the folders on your iPhone/iPod specified in the README file of the package (you will have to create the second one)
Go to Applications/Finder.app
Use the "su" command and the working password to change to root
Type "./Finder" to launch the Finder as root
move to the folder, nethack is stored (switch all options in properties on)
Modify it's user rights, so that all can execute it.

Reboot your iPhone/iPod

Go to console and switch to root again

Type in nethack to launch the game.

[If there is the request to do so I will edit this to get more exact and detailed; this is just one way to do it and as I am quite new to all this probably not the best, but its working; tested with an 8GB iPod touch]

It is a dungon-crawl type of game, that plays a little similar to Diablo, but only uses letters for its grafics and runs in a console type amplification (on a PC that would be telnet). You explore a dungon to gather equipment, kill monsters and level up, to ultimately get some kind of secret amulet.
Whilst its grafics are very simple, its gameplay and feature-richness makes it worth a tryout. You either might hate it or you might get addicted.

Looks the same to me.

Not to be critical or anything, but that game doesn't look too fun.

Pokemon actually had creativity and a storyline. And it had graphics...
