Default Questions about Linux

Well I'm a noob to the whole Linux thing. And I have a few questions about it.

• I was going to use vixta, is that decent enough? Which type of Linux OS do you reccommend?

• Will all Linux software downloads from the Internet work on any version of Linux. (eg. Firefox is available to download for "linux," will that work on any version of Linux or just some)

• Is there a version if iTunes that is compatible with Linux

• Is their any jailbreaking program that works on Linux

Thanks

Whatever OS the Guide for Vixta, is what you should use. Though Ubuntu is probably one of the most user friendly OS's out there. Ubuntu should be used for its ease, not for making it look like Vista

Most software will say which Version of Linux it works for. If yours is not listed, then it may not work. Ubuntu, Debian, Gentoo, those are some of the more common distros that people create software for.

No there isn't. But I've heard that people have gotten iTunes to work with WINE

XPwn is the only tool that can do Jailbreaking stuff that I know of on Linux. Though it is all Command Line. No GUI.

If you want to actually Triple Boot, you can use Wubi from Ubuntu to install Ubuntu inside of Windows Vista. It'll show up under Vista's Boot Loader.

VMWare does not count as "(Number) - Booting"

Itouch93 - people create software for every version of Linux, the good thing about it is that you can "compile from source" - meaning you compile the program to work for your specific version - this is only slightly more compliated than extracting the rpm or tar file and installing - if you find software you want but can't get it in the format you want, PM me and I'll show you how...

I use Ubuntu, and as this is Debian based, most Debian packages will work, find out what your's is based on and go from there!

ITUNES! Yes there is - it's called GTK Pod.

if you're in ubunty, go to the terminal and type

sudo apt-get install gtkpod

and you're away!

otherwise go here :

http://www.gtkpod.org/downloads.html

miiiiles better than itunes..
